plus also do they have pre-outs on the back of the head unit?

No RCA type preouts as far as I know, there maybe a speaker type line out on the changer block connector.

no inputs either, my local audio shop ordered in a line in thingy for one and it cost over £200

yup i had Skoda MFD but VW version D/G both fit.... identicle units.

You can have a line in but an adapter is needed, most people just do what i did and use the CD changer fooler system and put mp3/ipod on the CD changer input.

Search for Skoda Sat Nav MFD, should bring up my thread on it.

Try looking here http://www.satnavsystems.com. They are a lot cheaper than Skoda.

But ..... I am not convinced any car makers sat nav is worth it. None are brilliant and none can add POIs such as camera warnings.

For less money I got an Ipaq combined PDA and phone, Tom Tom, a Parrot combined bletooth car phone kit and sat nav receiver and Brodit powered mount. That included full fitting so all wires hidden and both phone and sat nav instructions and warnings come through the car audio, which automatically mutes whats on at the time. All the advantages of the built in system and none of the disadvantages.
