Have purchased a 2.0 SE Tech

Featured Replies

Well I am a little late to the party, but I have finally changed to a mk3 Superb after a highly successful (and reliable) 6 years & 125k with a mk2. I have recently purchased an 8-month-old 2.0 Diesel SE Tech Hatch with a manual gearbox. It appears to be exactly what I wanted with all the useful gizmo’s that I need and none that I don’t.  I normally buy new cars but as the difference in price between new and nearly new is currently so great I couldn't justify it this time.

As I spend 95% of the time driving on packed motorways and dual carriageways (20k a year commuting in the South East) the big improvement for me is the enhanced ACC which is much better than any other car I have driven with Adaptive Cruise Control.

Other things I like; Blind spot monitoring - well worth having if you spend long periods on the motorway in the dark. Heated seats, okay so far. The front parking sensors work well. A great manual gearbox. A decent DAB radio that re-finds stations immediately when I leave a tunnel, which many others don’t. Also, the ability to change driving modes is also fun.

Fuel economy has been all over the place for the first couple of weeks and seems highly sensitive to the outside temperature. I think it should eventually average about 63 to 65mpg once it settles down, but I have had a couple of two-hour journeys where I never went over 68 mph and it returned only mid 50’s mpg but the same journey the next day achieved 71 mpg. I did get 910 miles out of my first tankful though which is a good start.

The two things I do miss from my previous superb are a CD player, as I can’t be bothered to faff around with electronic media when driving, and simple ambient lighting which my SE Tech doesn’t seem to have, which was standard on my old mk2 SE.

I may be a little kid at heart but the thing that has delighted me the most is the Voice enhancement tool. If I turn its setting up to the max and then speak immediately after muting the radio it seems to go into full comedy ‘Pub singer’ mode (including the echo & feedback) which means that I can entertain my family with a few dodgy renditions of famous songs which should mean that none of them will ever want to travel with me again. 😁

I will no doubt have some comments and questions in the weeks ahead.
