something is not right

Featured Replies

My 07 tdi Octavia has not felt right since I got it, it flys though its MOT without advisories, its been checked by 2 VAG independents.. both say they cant find anything wrong with it...

If I where to describe the "loose" knocking on small bumps, I would guess its a loose drop link, or gearbox mount / engine mount .. something is allowing travel on bumps and acceleration...

But I cant afford a endless time sink into labour costs in diagnosing it further, the last Indy Vag specialist did a full health check, check everything under the ramp.. he said everything is safe, he cant find anything wrong.. come back if it gets worst... But I bought a L&K for a nice comfy ride, this is rattle knocky hell!

If you can identify the corner, check the damper.

I too had a knocking over slight bumps, rear left, nothing obviously wrong.

Upon taking things apart to find the cause I removed the damper and on forcibly stroking it by hand could feel a little click or give (difficult to explain).

It still worked but felt like an internal component had come loose/failed so as to introduce some slop in an otherwise smooth stroke.  I should have cut it open for an autopsy.

Replaced it for a no-knock drive.

Cheers for that, they did say the rear bumpstops could do with changing. But it feels like front is the issue, hard to pinpoint what side feels like both. Tried driving over those central bumps for speed control with each wheel separately and feel it with both.

My Octy Scout went through a period of practically devouring droplinks; 2 NSF and 3 OSF.  Not having a dropped kerb leading up to my drive didn't help.

Could be front strut top bearings.
