Upgrading front breaks, worth putting the "old" fronts on the back??

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia 1.9 TDI (130bhp) that is due for a remap, kw(3) suspension, and brembo front brakes upgrade. Would it be worth telling them to put the old front brakes on the back, since the fronts are ventilated and back's aren't???

If they fit it would be worth doing (assuming you transfer calipers as well as discs) . How easy it is to make them fit you will have to see :D .

Does anyone know if the handbrake acts on the rear calipers or is it a drum arrangement inside the rear discs?

I was just thinking that the octavia has front and rear disc brakes, the front being larger and ventilated. So if I upgrade the front brakes, why not upgrade the back brakes with the old front brakes..

Anyonw know if the front brakes will fit in the back??

The mounting points are all different and the handbrake is built ino the rear calipers so something would have to be sorted out there.

I'd just get some EBC for the rears.

We have done Porsche/Brembo conversions on the Octavia and it is not worth doing the rears to anything special (other than just uprated discs and pads) as it upsets the balance of the car.

If you wanted to uprate the rears to vented discs it would be best to get a Leon R or Toledo V5 rear set up. You can use TT real calipers and discs but you need spacers to reloacte the caliper.

Hope this helps.

very helpful, thank you.

I think I'll just forget it then. The front brakes are the most important so as long as these are good all is good..

Or the ones off the RS which are bigger and are vented.

As said, just swap the pads is a good option. :D
