They wanted an hour's labour and diagnostic cost, I couldn't be bothered arguing anymore so I came to a deal of £50, I still have my doubts, but I just won't use them again

Frankly who needs your business? You seem to be doing your best to rubbish a dealership, which you won’t patronise but expect to pay staff just in case your car develops a simple and cheap to fix fault. Just be grateful the timing chain didn’t snap or worse. In your own words it was running rough with an EML, which had probably detected the ignition problem and  illuminated to protect the engine. What’s the ‘actual fault’ you referred to? If the fault was so simple, why didn’t you take it to your independent  VAG specialist? He would have replaced your plug or told you what was wrong if it was a warranty repair and you could have taken it to the dealer rather than second-guessing. The trouble with forums like this, is that a few strokes of a keyboard can jeopardise the reputation not only of the so-called ‘stealership’  that everybody runs to when s*&t happens, it but the incomes and possibly jobs of its employees. Not everybody

who works in these places is stupid, they’re working under management supervision and cost guidelines. £50 is a bargain and it sounds like they treated you with respect and consideration. As for small claims court, your time and effort spent arranging would outweigh the actual cost.  Lastly if you don’t like opinions on this forum you shouldn’t ask for them.
