Citigo Noise on Acceleratiom

Featured Replies

I currently have a 15 plate Citigo which is making a weird noise on acceleration.

it kicks in at about 2k rpm and tails off at 3k.

I’ve seen suggestion that it’s a problem with a heat shield but it really doesn’t sound like a rattle. More like a ropey gearbox bearing (used to have a Honda Jazz and they suffer with those) but as I say, only kicks in between the revs.

What I’ve also noticed is it seems like there’s a very slight hesitation whilst making the noise - when the noise clears you can definitely feel the car pick up a little.

Prior to owning the Citigo I had a SEAT Mii of the same vintage - never had any problems with noises like this.

Any advice / pointers on what needs to be done to get rid of the noise would be gratefully received.

Thanks

I’ve just reached through the engine bay to the bulkhead and grabbed hold of the heat shield that’s fixed to there - seems solid / no movement.

Also did the same to the big heatshield that runs over the exhaust / down the middle of the car - all seems to be as it should be.

that sounds exactly the same as my problem that i've had for c63,000 miles on my 15 plate (it started at about 7,000 miles - it's now done 70k) .!!! and have never discovered what it is and (if it's any consolation) hasn't got any worse over that time.. checked the heat shields and they were solid on mine too.

i wondered if there was a valve or something that opens at about 2,000 rpm then closes again.. to me it sounds like a **** turbo

The noise only happens when driving... and if you sit and rev it, i notice the hesitation every time,

if you ever get to the bottom of it i'll owe you a beer.!

sorry that the only help i can offer is reassurance that you aren't alone and it's been happening on mine for ages.!
