Speed limit warning phone app ?

Featured Replies

Hi.... Has anyone successfully used a phone app that actually works consistently to monitor your road speed against the speed limit and sound a warning if exceeded ?

I'm aware that there are apps available that say they do this but the couple that I've tried don't seem to be consistent which renders them useless if you can't rely on them.

I have tried Waze and Tom Tom AmiGO but neither seems to work all the time.

Thanks

What wrong with Waze?

Hi... It doesn't always alert me and even when it does and I drop down just below the limit again it then doesn't alert me if I go over again shortly after.

I don't mean to state the obvious but is it really that hard to stick to the speed limit? Maybe you should think about your driving style rather than relying on an app with an audible alert to keep your speed legal...

I'll agree that Waze can be flaky when it comes to audible alerts. You can have the speed shown on screen which goes red when speeding if that helps?

If you're finished preaching, I am just exploring the possibilities to see if it helps for the odd occasion that the many different speed limits can catch us out when somewhere unfamiliar in chaotic traffic like I had on a recent journey with drivers following too close because I wasn't going fast enough for their liking.  I found myself looking at the speed limit indicator on the sat nav a little too often for my liking and feeling distracted from the road ahead.  So no, generally speaking I don't need to reconsider my driving style, but I'm not the perfect driver 100 percent of the time either, unlike yourself obviously.

No need for that - it's you that's unhappy with your current driving and awareness, not me.

From what you've said, it seems like turning the technology off and disabling the speed limit on the satnav might help. If nothing else it should help you keep your focus on the road ahead instead of a screen 😕

Try Here we go (formally Nokia Here maps now owned by Audi AG, BMW group and Daimler). Excellent Satnav app from the same people that supply VAG, BMW and Mercedes with Satnav mapping. For me, always been reliable with speed warnings and also alerts to speed camera locations ahead.  Implemented in a nice simple intuitive way, warnings audible (double bleep) and visually.

Yes, speed cameras warning is silent when you are under speed limit,
in most cases i'm +10 +15 km h
even in speed cameras area i set CC to +7 km h by GPS,
speedometer shows +2% with 225/55r17 and +5% with stock 215/55r17

BUT, Waze has another warning, Bong on reach above speed limit

Thanks MartiniB... That's the one I was referring to but it only seems to work occasionally with my phone.

Thanks xman, I've downloaded that and so far seems to work most of the time (enough to be useful anyway).

Cheers
