Oil light

Featured Replies

Evening folks! Earlier today I had the orange oil light come on (no other lights). So I checked the oil level and all is fine the light hasn’t been on since so any ideas why the light would come on? Car is a vrs tdi with 132000 on the clock

Parked on a slope?

No was parked on a flat road. Was thinking maybe oil feed pipe?

Oil feed pipe is a common problem but would affect oil pressure - red light. Have you properly checked oil level, warmed up, completely level per owners manual instructions? If not faulty oil level sensor possibly.  That is not unheard of either.

The car had been warned up for at least 15 mins maybe a bit longer but I checked the level when I pulled in for fuel on a flat surface but the car had only cooled for a few mins

Haha possibly 😂👍

My 2.0tdi A6 is currently suffering with a faulty sensor, I’ll change it when I change the oil.

its very annoying though.

Well, that could be your answer; the oil hadn't all drained back when you checked it.

If so, you can probably repeat the warning by doing a cold start, running the engine for 5 minutes, stopping it for 5 minutes and doing a level check.

I did check it yesterday from cold and the level was all ok just strange it came on in first place never had that before. It’s having a service in 4 weeks time so il see then. Think maybe a dodgy sensor

Ah, that makes it more likely because used engine oil is higher viscosity...

"More likely" that there was oil not drained back to the sump as per my first post in this thread.
