Rear blinds bent

Featured Replies

Hi all.  My offspring decided that the normal “straight” design of the blinds wasn’t to his liking.  The result is a bent blind!  Looking at them I think it’s an easy repair IF I can get a replacement bit of metal that runs through the top.  Failing that a cheap set of blinds from which I can remove the metal strip .

anyone had similar problems/fixes?

Yes, resolved by abandoning them on the steps of social services 🤣

Love it 😁

Other than that, as the OP said, it should be a relatively easy fix if done in situ as long as you're handy at unpicking (and resewing) the stitching on one end of the blind. It's a stiff piece of wire you'll need that's the same diameter as the current piece as it needs to pass through the little plastic handle that clips into the top of the window - I expect you already knew that.

Unless the current wire is badly bent, once you have it out, it may be possible to straighten it.

It seems that the current rod is 3mm in diameter, so an alternative to metal would be a 3mm fibreglass rod which can be purchased from E Bay. 3mm aluminium wire can also be purchased from E Bay but I prefer the fibreglass route as it will be straight, whereas the wire will have come from a roll and will be curved.

It also occurs to me that fibreglass would be a better replacement, because if said offspring grabs it again, it should spring back into shape rather than staying bent.

You may want to try fitting these;

If they've bent them once in all probability they could do it again. I have the 5 window set fitted to my Octavia estate for the last 6 years with no issues. They do a rear door only set which I'll fit to my next car (the rear screen blind is in two parts, so I'll just get it tinted).

If the design of all their blinds is the same, you can only get access to the metal parts when the door is open.

Thanks guys.  Really useful info.

I think I will hunt down some 3mm fibreglass.  I'll report back!

these look fantastic

surely a must have for anyone who wants blinds

I had a set in my Superb, they were great, so bought a set for my E-Class.

The fit was really poor, I was very disappointed and I had to return them back to Car Shades for a refund...
