Fabia VRS 1.9 Engine problems.

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

This is my first post on here so firstly... Hi all and love the site, it a fantastic source of info and has saved me hours of messing about finding what I need and getting the job done!

Now, I am literally clueless here.

My brother in laws fabia

2007 1.9 PD engine

(think engine code is BLT but not 100% sure)

This car was running absolutely perfectly, not issues what so ever, pulling great through the gears, plenty of power no excessive smoke etc.

Driving along road, went from 2nd to 3rd and it just died, no reason, nothing to suggest it was going to do it, just died.

Call to the RAC, out they came, plugged it in - no codes at all to report.

RAC man gave the car a good look over, but couldn't diagnose the problem.

Car was recovered home.

Had a mechanic friend (qualified) spend some time looking at it and he has discovered the car will start but only with the oil filler cap or dipstick removed. Even the it smokes quite badly (from the oil filler cap) and it runs rough.

The mechanic has now diagnosed the car as needing a new engine as its has excessive pressure inside the engine.

Does this sound correct?

I personally would have thought there would be some kind of build up to this, if the car was running rough or had other engine issues I could kind of get my head around the engine being gone but it was literally perfect prior to this.

We would be grateful of any bodies input to this as really want to help him sort this out.

Many thanks in advance.

A warm welcome to the Forum !  Best post this in the Fabia and tech sections.
