low profile diy tyre changing

Featured Replies

did'nt think this was possible on a 19" low profile tyre

i've never trusted tyre places with my shiny new alloys, video proves the diy method  is possible

How could anybody be bothered with that, luckily i know the local tyre fitter owner and he does a good job with no marks

Bothered with watching tonights contender for the slowest and most boring Youtube video you mean?

I have one of those machines, it works well enough and has a manual bead breaker which he didnt even show.

What a crappy looking wheel even though it is a 19" brand new tyre.

Go to a decent place in Glasgow that is insured.

Take photos, inspect the wheels along with the fitter & manger before they start work and be sure that they have cover for any damage they do.

Being Glasgow then if it goes t!ts up that you might be told to GTF.

If changing tyres yourself then you take the wheels and tyres to get balanced you are as likely to meet some handles fitter that will drop the wheels face down on the floor

or marks the centres of them putting on the machine.   Then you have those with rubbish stick on weights.

some people like the self satisfaction of diy, if you have the skill and knowledge, why not

by the time you run down to the local tyre fitter, sit about waiting, then drive back home,  guy in the video is sitting with his feet up drinking a cool beer  😀

saved himself a few bob as well

@310golfr

? Do you not bother balancing the wheels / tyres when fitting new tyres?

spin balancer, works fine on smaller wheels ie 15 or 16" etc

never tried it on a 19" wheel though

Yes.

So you balance your own smaller wheels?   I use balance beads on 4x4's.

yea your right, you dont see him breaking the bead, which will not be easy on a wheel that size/profile

how da yea manage to centre the bubble way your cross eyes ?

i suppose you could get someone to line it up fur yea, but then it would'nt be diy, so might as well take it to yer local tyre monkeeeee   🙃🙃

@310golfr   WTF are you on at?    You are the self tyre changer of at least 16 tyres and the ones not needing tyres balanced.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/449381-wheel-balance-rarely-needed-with-new-tyres

If my tyres are balanced at it is at ATS Euromaster.   Not only all the gear and more than an idea, but actually very good Tyre Fitters where i go.

I did enough tyre changing over the years that i do not need to be tight when there is a perfectly good place to do them for me.

The bag of beads go in the 4x4's tyres if going offroad but still used onroad as well..

I can also vouch for balance beads.

A little costly but work well

Well, if you're in the West of Scotland, I'd cheerfully recommend SMS in Dumbarton. 5 fitters plus one car meant 4 tyres changed, revalved, balanced and bill paid in 15 minutes! They even torqued the wheel nuts correctly when refitting.
