Rattle From Rear - Solved

Featured Replies

I was convinced that an annoying rattle I have been getting was from the rear centre arm rest until this weekend!. My son was in the back and immediately pinpointed this rattle (generaly over rougher surfaces) was the centre brake light housing resonating against the glass :( .

Case solved  .

I had a rattle from the rear in my VRS. It came from the rear hatch and was caused by a clip on the pull down handle from behind the plastic.

Cured by the dealer.

It's handy to have a second someone in the car for these things. One car I had produced what I was certain was a rattle inside the dash or glove box - proved to be the glass in the rear view mirror

I've had the same sort of issue, convinced I had a rattle from the passenger door, but it turned out to be my sunglasses in the overhead storage compartment ! thank god for other havles ! ;o)

Was it the handles for dropping the rear seats ? ? ? Mine is driving me nuts, it seems to be coming from both side (although left side is worse)

No the actual rear hatch. Behind the plastic cover and something to do with the pull down handle. Only really noticeable at low speeds on rough roads.

I would (did) take it back. No problems especially if it is obvious.

I had a mate who is a BMW techie ride around in the back of my Octy estate looking for the rattle which was driving me mad and he eventually traced it to the nut/ball joint at the top of the nearside strut of the tailgate which was so loose that it was ready to fall out!!. The whole stut was walloping around when the tailgate was shut!!. Fixed in minutes though.

Only faults with my Octy have been rattles though which are minor defects in the grand scheme of things. (Bl***y annoying mind you).
