bcm retro fit

Featured Replies

i have an octavia 2 bxe tdi and would like to retro fit cruise control

i have to replace my bcm (3co937049AJ) do i need to fit another number to enable cruise control ?

This may be a red herring but I believe on my Octavia BKC the cruise control is part of the main engine ECU, my reason for thinking that is that when when I fitted a remapped ECU the cruise control stopped working but I was able to recode the ECU using VCDS to enable it.

Are you saying that you have to replace your BCM for other reasons.

Yes I am reading

P1699         Steering assist no message

P1495.        Egr cooler switchover valve       N345                                                    I have a good feed

00457         Check connections to J 519  bcm.
00924         Headlamp cleaning relay open circuit                                                      Not fitted

02195.        Instrument panel dimmer open or short to ground.                              Not fitted

02546.      005  Steering limit stop not set / adaptation.
00778.      G 85  steering angle sensor  /adaptation / basic settings 005

the heater fan was also inoperative ...so first off  checked the motor for high resistance  and fuses then substituted the bottom right relay with a by pass switch and all came to life

I have checked and substituted the relay for a new one  but there is a problem with the demand connections on the relay connector block

I have  checked for faulty connections to bcm.  And have concluded the circuit board  has a fault

as part of that I am hoping the lack of info to the steering  assist is also faulty in the bcm

Sorry I have not figured out how to bring Vcds reports to a third party    It’s a steep learning curve

Neither have I, I click on "save" and I can never find them, eventually someone created a desktop icon "VCDS scans" as a link to the directory but they never seem to make their way there.

Have had a smartphone for over 2 years and have only very recently mastered how to recieve a call on it without cutting them off. Gods truth, no exaggeration 😞 I can do all manner of wonderfull things with it except the function for which it is named.

In my defence its not used for making or recieving calls, it stays in the hôtel to be used with the SumUp credit card terminal or travels with me to the UK for internet access, nobody should ever be phoning it but some people dont listen.

Pretty sure the standard location for log files is C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs

Obviously this will depend where you installed VCDS to and if you choose a different location in the save dialog...

The folder is this one and it does have some scans within.

C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Scans

But when I think that I have saved a scan it is never there, I am probably pressing the wrong buttons, I start up VCDS, cant recall what buttons to get there but its "gateway" something scan (sorry I have no short term memory) maybe gateway installation list? it brings up the fault codes and if I click on them it takes me to the relevant module, at the end if I want to clear them it asks me if I want to save them and I say yes, then like most K-rap programs written by nerds it seems to do nothing, then blinks and you have no confirmation.

Maybe doing an auto-scan is a different procedure and saved elsewhere.

Loads of info here: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/autoscan.php

In short

- Start VCDS

- Select Auto-scan

- Select Start (wait until it completes)

- Select Save

- In the dialog box, choose a location, name and finally clock save

Browse to the location you selected above and the file should be there. No real difference to saving a file in Word or most other programs really :/

I usually have the same complaints about them as well 😀 Most things I click on to download dissapear to a location I know not where, then sometimes I find a folder full of files that I didnt want to download but just view, never got to see anything but a blank screen and had no clue that they were being saved, having just lost an eye it can sometimes be that a tiny impreceptible icon is doing something elsewhere on the screen and I dont see it.

I will write down your instructions in my folder with the VCDS manual, pretty sure thats what i do but dont get asked where I want the file to be saved, the same complaint that I have about the other programs.

Reading it again it sounds like I have to click "save" not once but twice, I dont think I get the option to choose where to save so would not get the second request to save.

As good as VCDS is and as loyal and gratefull as I am it really is an appaling user interface.
