Door Locking Unlocking from Inside

Featured Replies

Locking and unlocking from the inside, on all doors of my SE. After discussing the same topic on the Kia forum, I only now realise the Octavia has no locking buttons by the door handles, whereas a Picanto does. A passenger can unlock their door in the Kia and exit (after the auto self locking)  but how can a passenger do that in the Octavia? Both cars do have a master lock/unlock, which it takes me some time to find and causes passenger irritation.

Just pull the door handle and it opens? Unless I’m missing the point here.

I remember doors like that, my father had them on his Japanese Toyota's nearly 50 years ago. They still build cars like this? :o

I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I sat in any car where I had to press a button to unlock the door from the inside.

If the doors are autolocked then pulling the door handle does not open the Octavia doors (apart from drivers door). I have to turn off the engine and remove the key or figure where the unlock button is.

Press the lock/unlock button in front of the gear stick? That's what we do.

You’ve got me questioning myself now. I’m 99% sure that’s now how mine operates. I’m near certain that after auto lock any door can be opened from the inside using the handle.

The user manual would appear to back you up.

The following applies after locking.

▶ Opening the doors and the boot lid from the outside is not possible.

▶ The doors can be unlocked and opened from the inside by a single pull on the

opening lever of the respective door.

I don't know the answer without looking at my car but that certainly not how both my Skodas work.

I'm just thinking aloud here...  If that were the case then why would there be an option to operate rear child locks from the drivers seat?  If it's the case you have to press the global lock/unlock button in front of the gearleaver then how does rear passengers exit the car in an emergency or a crash? Perhaps not all Octavia's work like mine.

I'm just taking a guess, but if I were you, I'd look at the SETUP options in the menu system. Perhaps there's something in there where you can set the passenger doors to lock/unlock?

EDIT:   I hope your proud of yourself gregoir cause you've just made me go out in the pouring rain to check... :D

On the infotainment go to CAR / setting / OPEN and CLOSING and you'll find you can chose how the central locking works.  I assumed that meant how doors open from the outside but perhaps it means internally as well?  Dunno.  But all my doors certainly open from the inside after they've autolocked. The only time I need to press the global OPEN/CLOSE button is if someone is trying to enter the car once autolock has been activated rather than leave it.

If the child locks are on then the interior door handles are inoperative, so the rear doors can only be opened from outside.

Having said that I'm not sure if in the event of a crash the crash signal will enable the interior door handles regardless of the state of the child locks?

The child locks are not turned on in either car. I will venture out in the rain as a penance to check my car. I've disabled the autolocking in SWMBOs Picanto pro tem. I can always manually lock the doors if I'm in a dodgy part of Scotland.

ps I'm frae Embra.

In my SE, I don't have autolocking set.  On the odd occasion I lock all the doors via the button in front of the gear lever, passengers can unlock their door by pulling on the door handle.

Yep, I'm a bit confused. Sorry. All doors in the Octavia can be opened from the inside by tugging the handle, when auto locked. If I open the drivers door and then exit, the other doors stay autolocked and can't be opened from the outside.

The Kia needs the unlock button on a door for a passenger to exit, unless I press the master unlock button.

Clear? I'll soon forget.

Me neither. But again when you think on it, many cars have mechanical child locks where you physically have to flick a lever on the bodywork of the rear door. I very much doubt they're capable of receiving a crash signal.

Anyway I'm glad gregoir has this sorted out.
