Sportline - heated steering

Featured Replies

Its exactly the same as mine, you think with some programmation i can put the heating?maybe is off the set up.

According to UK brochure, it’s a £95 option on the vRS and a £250 option on the Sportline. Only those models and only with DSG.

its a factory order, so presumably the actual steering wheel is different, plus all the programming etc.

Mine is 7 DSG too...i will ask,maybe is just set up,lets hope😅

Steering wheel must contain heating elements. You cannot add these just by magic (programming).

Maybe I can code ventilation on my seats then...

I was hopping that maybe i had the heating already but it was set off, because i didnt pay for it.

So i will try to see the prices here.

Don't the ventilated front seats have perforation holes in the leather for the air to pass through?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:.......Good one. :wondering:

It isn't such a funny suggestion that the feature is there and simply coded out.

Land Rover in the UK went through a period of fitting all their diesel engined Discovery's with a Webasto heater. Plumbed and wired in, but redundant. Some simple coding and a £1,000+ feature enabled for free.

For a period of time Skoda clearly didn't feel having a dedicated flat bottomed heated steering wheel was worthwhile, forcing some users to choose either heating or the flat bottom. Sometimes it is cheaper to build in a feature and only enable it when needed than to have to design, manufacture and hold inventory of multiple versions.

Yes i know, with my previous audi,i had some things, that they were there, but they were just off.

They just needed to be coded to be functional.

But i dont care, for thEse "smart" people.

I just wanr to enjoy my skoda ehe

Its not like the heater was fitted with no purpose though, it still fired up on a cold start to help the coolant get warm. The extra £1000+ was just for a remote control and to enable you to set a timer to have it come on independent of the engine.

I only know because my Dad had the coding added so he could at least used the 'timed climate' function.

Our newly acquired S-max has heated steering wheel, its not something I would have ever bothered with but I do quite like it now I've tried it.

True, but it is an example of where simply turning something on/off via simple coding isn't always limited to low cost / low complexity components.

The origin of this discussion and my point was that the potential for the heating elements already being inside the steering wheel, isn't always as far fetched as some might think.

Many years ago, Volvo used to offer the new-fangled 'cruise control' as an option. Turned out all the hardware was already there, and the dealer could retrofit by substituting a 'cruise control stalk' and install the software, at a price somewhat below the Volvo factory-fit option. Roll forward to now, the XC40 has the option for smartphone integration, which the dealer can do instantly with a software change - for the same price as the factory-fit option.

My Volvo dealer back then reckoned that "this is the way it will go: cheaper and easier to bung everything in during the build, then charge buyers to have the items enabled". Not happened universally, but as silver10100 says, nothing should surprise you as to what is actually lurking in your car, waiting to be liberated with a software change.

Good news - my dealer admitted it was a mistake and that it IS possible to have heat installed in the sports wheel... Guess who ordered it ☺️ thanks for the help!

Result!

Where i can buy a heated steering wheel? I live in switzerland in the mountains, and i missed that detail when i bought my car😔.

It would be good to have something like that for the rough winters that we have here.

Peace .

Regards.

Try https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Scala-Kodiaq-Karoq-Kamiq-original-MFA-Lederlenkrad-heizbar-Schaltwippen-/143449813070

Or cars-equipment.com (see attached photo).

I have one in my Karoq and I wouldn't be without it.  I am now looking to upgrade to a 2019 Kodiaq but unfortunately it doesn't come with the Sport Line spec in the UK and I can't find 2.0 Tsi 190 4x4 DSG SEL 7 seat with it already fitted.  So I might have to buy the steering wheel and get it retrofitted, if I can find someone to do it.  The wiring is already there but it has to be coded to work with the display screen.  Anyone know a Skoda dealer in the south of England who would take this on?

I’m sure many VAG independent specialists would be happy to do the work.

Thanks, I will have a look for one near me.
