  • How far through the set-up procedure did you get? I assume you've entered your VIN into the App, received the pin code and entered it into the infotainment system in the car?

  • As is mine, no signs of Connect being down or otherwise.

The main thing that I use it for on my S3 is to have the real time traffic updates on the 'car system' - which also allows the use of Maxidot for directions. The Connect setup (after the initial

Remember that you may need your phone to check you parking location and that won't help if it's left in the car.

Hi John according to Trevor you don’t need a sim in the MIB for it to work I think there is another sim already embedded in the car.

Hi Trev,

Just to be sure the ŠKODA Connect works without a SIM card in the car MIB?

G

Yeah, absolutely. I’ve never personally shoved any SIM’s in the MIB and I’ve checked all the slots - nothing installed.

Thanks Trev, mine most certainly doesn’t without the sim in, the only way it will work is if I hotspot it to my iPhone but then of course there’s no remote data on the app.  Using a sim in the MIB costs as well and it’s not cheap.  Maybe that guy on the infoline is right in that changes have been made to the head unit  since yours was made.

I’m now having these frustrations.

Picked up the new SEL on Monday. Registered on the portal and got the code.
hotspotted the car on my phone and entered the code, said registration successful.

skoda connect menu in the car says not available and the remote features on the app are greyed out as someone else has posted.

check the portal and it says license active.

frustrated is not the word!

anyone got any ideas?

thanks

Possibly? But Skoda aren’t doing themselves any favours the way they are reducing certain bits of kit. Skoda is/was a great buy because of the amount of kit installed as standard, take that away and many people will buy elsewhere, and get a better warranty. Just wondering, it is a Columbus MIB you have?

Sorry, jumped in after MrAdamwood.

Join the club it’s a joke!  I was told last week by the infoline remote access to the car is not possible been trying to validate it without success mine doesn’t work but Westies does, try ringing the infoline

Yes I have the Columbus unit, and I agree I’ve only had my Karoq Edition 4 weeks and I feel a little cheated looked at the Kia Niro and I’m beginning to wonder☹️

I thought it might be useful to check the brochure again and see if Skoda Connect Remote Access is included for my model and guess what it is!

Check The Brochure and click on Videos & Availability, enter Country (UK), Select Car Model, then Infotainment Model,  then Production Date.  You should then see a list of the things that should be included in the specification which includes remote access.  I am unsure about whether the sim card in the MIB unit is necessary or if that is to create a hotspot for passengers.  In Westies case his is working without a sim card in the MIB unit but is an older model.  There is a help desk in the brochure which I have sent a query to I will let you know if I get an answer.  I could probably live without it but I hate being short-changed.

I have had a reply from the Skoda Help Desk which have to say was very quick.   They have confirmed what the previous person said that Care Connect Services is an optional extra which I don't have, and has to be ordered before the car is produced but they don't say that in the online brochure which I have pointed out.  I now know why Trevor's works without the sim in the MIB because it was ordered as an extra (£400) and the care connect lasts for 3 years, Infotainment 1 year see here.

I also pointed out that the error message from the care connect app was misleading it could possibly suggest that the user should check to see that they have the optional skoda connect extra, I spent many hours chasing a technical rainbow.

So, that's it, I haven't got the extra.   As it is said you don't miss what you've never had lol, but somewhere along the line I would have liked to have tried it.

G

I've just specced up both an SE and Edition (basic and top of the range infotainment systems) on the online configurator and can't see a factory option for remote access (Care Connect)?

Click on the See Here in my previous post under Skoda Care Options and scroll down to and scroll down Skoda Connect.

It’s in £0 Emergency Call! You have to add the £400 care connect to get it.

I spoke to Skoda cs and was to,d the same.... told my dealer and they didn’t know! Said it’s not in the brochure. Oops

Yep that's it!  Not very clear in the advertising blurb is it?

It does seem that to benefit from the SOS button you also need the other elements (proactive service and remote access) which incur the additional costs, as detailed above.

Not according to the manual. It works exactly as described in my Superb, no subscription. Note the wording at the bottom of the page

But that assumes it is fitted.

According to the online configurator the 'Emergency Call' feature is free, but to add it you also have to add the £400 Care Connect option...
