skoda free Vodafone 1GB sim card

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just got a Karoq Edition and am quite impressed with it having had a Yeti for 3 years before that, which I was quite satisfied with.  I'm still finding my way around the technology but one problem I'm having is with the free sim card for Skoda Connect.  I get to the end of installing it but cannot figure out how you register the card with Vodafone as being a data only sim it doesn't have a phone number. If anyone can shed any light I would be appreciative.

  • How far through the set-up procedure did you get? I assume you've entered your VIN into the App, received the pin code and entered it into the infotainment system in the car?

  • As is mine, no signs of Connect being down or otherwise.

Hi guys,

OK I got the Vodafone free sim card in the slot, registered with Vodafone and my account says I have 1GB of data for 28 days. I think I have configured the settings correctly but having registered with Skoda Connect I cannot get it to talk to the car, all I get is the Garage tab with a picture of the car.  I've spent a few hours on it to no avail any suggestions would be much appreciated,

Many Thanks

Thanks for the response, my vin number is in the Connect app so I must have received the pin but I don’t recall it so is it possible to re do it?  I’ve ditched the Vodafone sim in favour of the 3 sim that’s all installed including the 200mb of free data. I just need to get it to talk to the kroq

thanks

Today I reset the Skoda Connect back to factory default and reinstalled it adding the pin number sent to the app on my iPhone.  Skoda connect works perfectly in the car but refuses to connect with the iPhone. What can it be??

Bloke over in the Kamiq forum may be having an issue with Skoda Connect - perhaps that's the problem?

I’ve spoken to Skoda today and apparently there has been an issue with connect for a week now...which would explain the issue. My Connect hasn’t updated since last Friday night. Not sure if anyone else has had an issue.

FYI - My Connect appears to be fully working.

Thanks for that Scot5 but mine works in the car just not in the App, must be something settings somewhere.

Got on the chatline this morning and Skoda confirm that the the problem is with them and the service has been down for a week or so hopefully back next week they will email me when back up (I hope) and I will post when that happens.  Connect works in the car but not on the iPhone he said that would be correct due to the OCU or something.

Well, finally got my answer to the Skoda Connect App not working on my iPhone.  As the error message (see image) says I phoned Skoda Infoline and spoke to a gentleman who took my details and phoned me back.  Apparently Skoda Connect elements, Vehicle Status, Doors and Lights and Driving Data will never work on the App because it is not built into the Karoq models only works on the Kamiq, Kodiaq and Superb.  Of course to set up Skoda connect for the Trip Planner element you have to download the app to sign in what made me think my set up was wrong was the error message if it had said 'not available on some models' that would have made a difference.   Can't say i'm not disappointed because I am what's the point of installing the sim card? 'it can be used for a hotspot' the man said 'but already have that on my iPhone' i replied.   It is what it is, just have to accept it and move on after all it does work in the car itself.

The Connect setup (after the initial free period) allows you to choose which portions you want and charges accordingly.

Ok but I can do that by hotspotting it from my iPhone 👍

Not quite sure where the Skoda Infoline is coming from with the info they've told you regarding the Skoda Connect elements not available on the Karoq models. All of these have always worked on my phone app, as I'm sure also work on other owners cars. Most of it is reasonably useful, unlike the hopeless (fee payable) Connect.

Are you saying that the three elements show in the image Vehicle Status, Doors& Lights and Driving Data work on your App on the IPhone? As you can see all mine are greyed out.

True but what about that time when your phone's been left at home and you just happen to hit a jam! ;)

Obviously it's horses for courses but I find it more convenient to have than to not have. :whew:

Besides, you've got the first year free haven't you?

Yes, this is a quick photo of my screen, all the elements work.

Thanks for that obviously working so why won’t mine work grrrr, what do I do now?

looks like back to infoline.

I know it’s really frustrating when things like this don’t work as intended - but that’s Skoda (inset any other vehicle manufacturers) for you. They shouldn’t really try to achieve anything more than putting a working engine and brakes in a car, and leave the tech bits well alone. I’m still getting regular Vehicle Status reports (usually two or three consecutively at about 2:00 in the morning) without ever asking for them!

Yes I get your point but if they do put the technologies in vehicles and advertise them as working then they should just do that.
