Leaking Octavia - passenger footwell leak FIXED??

Hello to anyone interested, 

After my car's passenger side footwell got thoroughly sodden again, I duly took apart the scuttle (I'm very good at it now, I could go and work at a main dealer and specialise in nearside scuttle removal) and took the pollen filter frame, leaves, etc out. At this point I had the carpet partially pulled up, not all the way cause I'm not sure how to take the seat out without causing the airbag warning to come on. Since it was already wet in there and I was in a combative mood, I decided to pour some water into the area - I don't know why I hadn't done this before. 

I've attached a couple of photos, in the first you can see the hole (figure 2) where water can get in. I poured some down with a jug and it came inmediately out onto the top of the underlay under the glovebox. This might not be the final cure for this issue, but I'd never had anything filling this hole before (maybe it had a grommet once?) So it's definitely a step in the right direction and one less place for water to get in! 

The floor pan is still moist but I'm putting that down to the fact that the sound deadening is saturated. 

Hopefully this can help other people with their water ingress issue, I will try and remember to come back with an update if it seems to keep working.
