Having DSG 7 speed gearbox oil changed

Featured Replies

To try and fix a potential fault with poor cold running and engine revving too high when cold (could be a low pressure problem), I am having my gearbox oil and filter changed on my 8500mile 2019 Scout TDI184 4x4. Skoda Garage not willing to entertain warranty repair. Standard costs of oil and filter change for a 6 speed DSG is 199ukp, but it takes about 15 mins longer to do a 'maintainance' free gearbox oil change, and hence the extra cost of 265ukp to do that extra work. I will let everyone know if that fixes the poor MPG and high reving issue when cold.

It is going to be one of two things: either a low pressure problem on the gearbox or the DSG gearbox firmware is shash and needs changing. I've read the torque limiter can cause issues in low gears when cold so a gearbox oil change seems to be a good call to protect the viability of the gearbox.

Car had an early hard life with it being a salesman's car for 3 months (and they don't do mechanical sympathy);

@varaderoguy

STOP!.   Do not mess with it!

????

Which garage or employees are not entertaining a warranty issue?

You want to talk to Skoda UK who the warranty is with,

you want to go to a competent Master Tech at another Skoda Dealership.

You need a proper diagnosis.

Really do not do an Oil change and pay for it.

?

What is a maintenance free Oil change?

?

ARE THEY SAYING THAT IS AN OIL CHANGE AND NO FILTER REPLACED?

Someone is at it here,

The car needs diagnosed as to what the issue is and what actions are required, to have a car fit for purpose.

PS

EDIT.

A DQ200 7 speed DSG which is 'Maintenance Free' as in no Guidelines or Schedule for oil changes requires 2 different oils if doing an oil change. For the MCU and the box.

I think some muppet at a dealership is looking at that labour time.

You do not have a DQ200 DSG.

The MPG is terrible (around 35mpg) against very good levels of driving (I have Skoda Connect Lite) on a 40 mile round trip; I think their view is that as they cannot see any errors, then there isn't a problem. I love the Scout, but Skoda's warranty is really not worth the paper it's written on. The gearbox oil is being changed by the master technician. Filter and oil is being done. The view is that do that....then if the problem continues then they will investigate further.

BTW...I wrote that previous article; the more I read about this issue of DSG gearbox performance (on other VW forums) then the more I am convinced that the gearbox has issues. Oil changes cost, but I would rather have peace of mind knowing that basic maintenance has been performed correctly than leaving it to chance.

Does any know if the 7 speed is a wet or a dry clutch at all? ive got the 2 liter diesel.

Suspect it's a wet clutch

The only Twin Dry Clutch 7 speed DSG are the DQ200's 2009-2020 are only on vehicles with FWD and 250 Nm torque max.

So petrols, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5  maybe 80ps -150ps,

then 180ps (Fabia Mk2 vRS) & on some192 PS like a 2015 1.8TSI Polo GTI.

Up to a 1.8TSI fwd Octavia maybe and a 1.6TDI.    No 2.0 tdi or TSI'.

I have some follow up to this thread.  After paying the dealer £281 to have 5.8l of DSG gearbox oil and filter changed on my DQ381 (because they wouldn't warrant this issue), the gearbox has been completely transformed; better MPG, better descisions on gear changes and it feels like the engine and the gearbox are now working together.  Took it for a 200 mile blast....what a transformation.

I have dropped Skoda Customer Services a note to express my disappointment; but in essence, I am working along the lines that they are not putting enough oil into the gearbox from new.  If the issue is a low pressure problem (due to lack of hydraulic oil), then there will be a larger issue out there for people to deal with.

I'll let everyone know if/when I get a response.

Thanks

What I have also discovered is that Skoda subsurdise all servicing costs after 3 years; hence why after the servicing costs for an older car are lower than for a new vehicle.

@varaderoguy

?

Who told you that Skoda subsidise servicing after 3 years, and is this Skoda UK?

Was it someone at WEST END SKODA EDINBURGH?

That is false news, and as it is the 3-10 year old Fixed Servicing cost menu has gone in 2020.

Dropping  a note to Skoda UK Customers Services is one thing.  You might be better forwarding an Invoice and a written report from a Qualified Master Tech that drove your car before doing the oil change then after they did the Oil change to the DSG.

A Skoda Approved Repairer / Dealership should be supporting you and they should be contacting Skoda to have you reimbursed.

If that is WEST END SKODA EDINBURGH,

then the Master Tech, Workshop Manager, Warranty Manager must know what the right thing to do is.

Okay - all points fairly noted.  I was told that information by the dealer re: servicing costs....

I'll ask for a report from the dealer.

Whats your mpg sitting at now..?

Cheers
