Forward facing camera

Featured Replies

My Octy3 has a forward facing camera built into the rearview mirror mount which as far as I can tell is only used by the auto headlight dipping function. I don't seem to have the speed limit sign reading feature.

Has anyone tried adding a recording device to add a dash cam facility to their Skoda?

The camera doesn't have that level of capability.

I'd assumed it would have to be pretty capable to to feed image processing software for the speed sign recognition as well as the ability recognise a tiny pinpoint of red tail lights and yet reject reflection off road signs from your own headlights.

I'm quite impressed by the accuracy of the auto dipping.

If you only have the mirror mounted cam for HBA then it’s not a camera in the full sense of the word, it’s really just a light sensor. A much more accurate sensor than the RLHS but it’s just measuring light input in Lux and sending a CAN signal to actuate the high beam. The lane assist camera which does do TSR is a camera in the traditional sense but it’s not like a Tesla which has an SD card on the board and saves data to send back to Tesla and improve autopilot. Neither camera has the facility to record images or video for viewing as a dashcam.
