New engine required

Featured Replies

My folks bought my 2012 Fabia vRS from me 5 years ago... To cut a long story short, it needs a new engine. It had some oil consumption issues over its life, but nothing like some of the horror stories that were frequently coming up on the forum at the time. Basically, if anyone is aware of a mk2 vRS that is being broken up due to bodywork or any non-engine related issues, please let me know as they've been quoted £7k for a reconditioned unit from Skoda.

Well, for that money I'd expect recon, supplied, installed and warranted as new.

Yes that's what they've been offered. I'm just trying to establish whether there are any floating around that would be substantially lower than that.

They are offering to rip you off with a ridiculous cost to supply a Base Engine from VW and fit it.

They want you to not accept or if you do make you the goose that lays the golden egg.

Have they supplied a detailed quote.  parts & labour?  & Is this cost what they have done up to now diagnosing and then getting and fixing an engine?

The quotes from Main Dealers have become ridiculous.

Skoda never paid the stupid labour time when warranties covered them & After Market Warranty Companies / Underwritters never let the Dealership rip them off.

Assuming it’s the well known cylinder head damage that causes these to break, have you considered pricing how much it’ll cost to have the bores machined to a bigger size with bigger pistons? That’ll probably work out cheaper than paying Skoda’s ridiculous prices.

if not I’ve got a cylinder head here that’s damaged that’ll need machining if you want it? Saves you dismantling yours to send it off.

Considering you can buy whole car for under 3k it’s ridiculous the prices they want.

Theres a couple getting broke on the mk2 Facebook page however as said above look into the price of a rebuild and forged.

Probably cheaper to have the current engine rebuild but a VW specialist.

To put it into perspective you can buy a rear ended 14 plate fabia with 33k on the box and engine for £2800, that's enough to steal the box and clutch and still make most of your money back!
