Car Behaving Strangely

Featured Replies

The way we used to drive - really doesn't reflect how we should be driving these days.  Most modern cars are designed to be driven quite hard - which if you done anything like an Advanced driving course - will be counter-intuitive to anything you've done before.

Italian Tune-up required - either a petrol particulates filters or a diesel variant, they need a long-fast run to clear them out.

I had the same problem again on 8 March 2021.  Car ticking over at 1500 rpm and the display telling me to change down from second to first gear whilst driving onto our estate - second gear is the right one by the way.  I reported the problem to the dealer who advised that I was not driving the car enough on long runs and to take it on the motorway, keeping it between 3000 and 5000 rpm and accelerating and decelerating regularly.  I went up the M6 to Preston and back home down the M61.  The car seems OK now but what a waste of my fuel and time.  Whilst diesel cars can be fraught with DPF problems, I thought petrol cars weren't supposed to suffer in the same way.  Not impressed with this technology at all and waiting for the problem to come back soon.

Welcome to the Particulate Filter club. You have a PPF, I have a DPF. Either way, we have problems down the line...  :)

Had exactly the same problem again last week.  Car telling me to change down a gear when I didn't need to.  I had a 40 minute motorway journey planned for yesterday anyway so I drove between 60 and 70mph in third gear for about 30 minutes.  This did clear the petrol particulate filter and all is back to normal.  Still not impressed with this technology which, at the very least, is wasting my fuel and increasing emissions.  Has anyone else had filter problems with their petrol car?
