Yeti Battery during lockdown

Featured Replies

Hi. We have a 2016 petrol Skoda Yeti 1.2 with the original stop/start battery. I would like to know what we should do to maintain the battery while we are in lockdown. We have a solar charger (photo) attached but I am clueless as to what I should do with it for the best.  Will it work from the cigarette lighter socket or should I attach it to the battery directly.  Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere. I have searched but couldn’t find an answer. I am totally non technical and my husband has dementia so I am reluctant to question him over it. Thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

I don't have a Yeti so don't know. However, do you need the ignition switching on for the socket to work (annoyingly my Fiesta does)?  You could test it by plugging in something, (tyre compressor or phone charger, etc) into the socket and seeing if they work with the doors locked. If they work, then I'd imagine the solar charger will work. If not connect it directly to the battery.

On a Yeti (or any other Skoda - I think) the 12v sockets are permanently live - so yes it will work from the cigarette lighter socket.

Thanks. I was just a bit nervous of doing more harm than good. I will give it a try tomorrow.

You can only trickle charge through the 12v socket or you will blow a fuse - but solar charger is fine for this as it's a low current

Thanks for the advice. I have attached the solar trickle thing in the hope of keeping the battery working. I haven’t opened the car since as I won’t be moving it and don’t want to drain the battery with the door lights. Keep safe.
