Headunit upgrade questions

Featured Replies

Our Fabia doesn't have Bluetooth and looking at the cost of decent Bluetooth addon kits vs the cost of a used Amundsen unit, it seems like the latter might make more sense as an upgrade to the factory fitted Swing unit. Which leads me to ask is it possible to code a used unit to the car with VCDS or are other tools needed? Also is it just plug and play apart from a GPS antenna?

One other question: is the RNS 315 Amundsen compatible with the mk2 Fabia or should I stick to the RNS 310?

RNS315 will plug and play, and yes can be coded.................... but be careful.......they don't all have bluetooth in them, so you would still need a bluetooth module and loom as well, can sometimes

work out cheaper buying a NON bluetooth unit and adding the additonal module / wiring which is also plug and play.

The way to tell, is if your looking at images of them, if there is an image of the factory part label, if the MAC address is NOT all 0's and is numbers etc then it has built in bluetooth.

Same goes for DAB, they don't all have it.

Image showing a unit WITH DAB.......(arrowed green connector)

Also, image showing label with MAC address as all 0's.......NO bluetooth.

Thanks for the input. My main query with coding is whether a used unit needs some additional unlock procedure before being coded to another car?

no, as long as it comes with security code it will be fine.

Fitted a RNS 315 to mine, then upgraded again to a RNS 510, both used.
