Yeti 1.8TSI - Cyl.3 Misfire + Hide Cylinder

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've diagnosed these two codes on my Yeti, reading around it looks like it could be anything from the ignition coil packs to spark plugs - before I call up my local garage and can anyone advise please?

The car starts but the engine shudders and the EPC light comes on - Engine Fault - Workshop!

Thanks

All 4 spark plugs need inspected.

A failing spark plug can cause an injector to fail prematurerly.

Sadly i must draw your attention to the elephant in the room and the 1.8 TSI possible issue.

Timing chains.

?

Does your car use excessive amounts of oil?

Thanks for your reply, It does use more than usual and I'm aware of the timing chain issue

What am I looking for as to an unhealthy spark plug please?

You are looking to see if oiled, or if soot / carbon has built up, and you are checking the gap of all 4 plugs as they are now.

Generally inspecting the condition of all 4 and is there an odd one out.  & Is the the plug from cylinder 3?

cheers - any idea how I can check the tensioner?

The 1.2 suffers from deterioration of the leads as well, could be the same issue in this 1.8?

Strange that the 1.2 known fault on no3 plug lead pops up on the 1.8!

Its in the local garage now, will report back here soon with the findings

Pretty sure the 1.8 is Coil on Plug, i.e. no plug leads.  Coil packs have been known to fail, and if one goes the other 3 (almost certainly from the same batch) are likely to fail soon too.

Coil pack and spark plug replaced on Cylinder 3 - £150 all in

to say i am relieved is an understatement - going to book into Allam's of Epsom next to get that tensioner checked out

I hope that was necessary and not a stab in the dark replacing the ignition coil as is the common case.

Did you get the spark plug to look at?

I would have had 4 new plugs fitted and not just the one.

I ensured they checked all the coils and plugs

now getting a misfire on Cylinder 1 - car drinking 2 litres of oil every 400 miles 😢 Engine now just shudders when I start and leave in idle

Sadly that is the way that too many 1.8TSI's have gone.

Hence the pinned 1.8/2.0 TSI thread at the top of the Octavia Mk2 section and various threads in this section including the one i will bump.

It is in the General Automotive section.

About a possible Class Action, but has info that might interest you.
