Leaving the brake off?

Featured Replies

My Karoq is spending  2 or 3 weeks on the trot without being used during the covid-19 lockdown. I would like to leave it with the 'handbrake' off, and in 1st gear to avoid corrosion on the discs - our drive is pancake flat. Is there a quick way of ensuring that the automatic brake is disabled? I'm sure it must be in the buried somewhere in the 328 pages of the manual.

Both the electronic handbrake as well as the Auto hold function are off unless you switch them on.

No I don’t think so. The EPB comes on automatically when you leave the car (open the door). However I think you can release it again by pressing the brake pedal and pressing the parking brake button/lever in. The auto-hold button has nothing to do with the EPB.

Thanks, yes, this is what was confusing me. A friend was telling me about an incident where his son had gone to the aid of a Skoda driver who had hit a deep patch of water on the road. The car engine stopped, and they couldn't release the brake to push it out; sadly, it drowned.😢

With all the Yes and No comments above I’m puzzled as to where you are now.

Suffice to say, I leave my Kodiaq EPB in the OFF position a lot of the time.  Only takes a click to turn off the hill hold before you stop and the EPB will not engage.

As an aside, if you stop, climb out leaving the car in Drive, the EPB will engage and alarm will beep. On a good day the car stays put.

More confusion.

Hill hold assist is not 'Autohold' and a e-brake is not autohold.    But luckily both Auto hold and the E-brake can be off and a and a car pushed in 'N'.

(With a DSG left in P)

Assuming the car is locked and the EPB is on now.

Unlock the car, turn on the ignition (without starting the engine i.e. push the KESSY button without pressing the foot brake), press the foot brake and then release the EPB by pressing the toggle switch down.

Select first gear, turn the ignition off (press the KESSY button without pressing the foot brake), exit and lock the vehicle.

The EPB should not automatically turn on.

On my superb if I turn autohold off before switching off the engine then the EPB does not come on automatically when I switch off.

I can also turn EPB off manually, I think the ignition may have to be on, but engine not turning, and press brake pedal while doing so.

But turning off Autohold off before shutdown is the easy way.

Leave car in gear. I have a flat drive but found my car kissing the garage door one morning after a windy night.

Part of the Skoda Approved Accessories range.

The Peugeot ones aren't compatible with Skodas, the Boeing ones work really well though and the Toyota ones just rust (up here anyway).
