How to disassemble the side mirrors to change the puddle light bulbs to LED

Featured Replies

HI

Both of my Puddle lights have gone so i thought i might as well change them to LED but as much as i try i can't get the mirror apart.Iv'e Watched U-tube of the process and they literally click apart very easily by using a thin plastic card or similar to part the housing etc.Could anyone help please?

Thanks

They come  apart as you have seen and stated, like any virgin the first time is hard work, thereafter very easy.

Its true of most of the clip together plastic parts of our vehicles.

Buying some plastic trim levers is a game changer, I bought some from Ali-Express & they are very good, then got some thrown in with a box set of assorted plastic trim clips, they are made of a more rigid ABS type plastic & work even better, much better than a credit card or screwdriver.

ok great i'll look into getting some of those.i will not be defeated!!

It is also a good idea to wait until a warm day (could be a long wait!) or use a hairdryer on the low setting to warm up the plastic to help the retaining lugs bend and not crack when you disassemble it.

Ok thanks.Hopefully it will warm up soon otherwise i'll resort to using the hairdryer

@stu55-57  I can't actually remember other than taking the mirror off first, then undoing the 3 star head screws. ie doing it from inside the housing.

Not sure that you have to split the lens off as you are not replacing these............just new bulbs.

You ok I looked at a couple u tube videos and it looked like you had to part the housing or shroud from the mirror that’s attached to the car. Then you can get access to the torx screws x 2 that hold the bulb in place . Maybe as you say I’m over complicating the job as I don’t need to replace the indicator sealed unit

thanks

Hi Can i just check what your last thread said? By removing the glass and plastic housing its possible to get to the puddle light rather than splitting the housing ?

Thanks

I think so stu...........However, It is a good few years since I had mine apart, and at some stage I had to replace the lens also anyway.

It is easy to take apart if you tinker with fiddly jobs normally.

Yours is a couple of years newer than mine so maybe??? slightly different, but should come apart in a similar way.
