Probable turbo failure

Featured Replies

Hello all

I believe that I have cooked the turbo on my 2008 scout with bmm engine. I notice when the engine is warmed up you can hear a growl type noise from the area of the turbo. The engine must be under load for the noise thus it can only be made when driving.

I understand that the prop shaft and exhaust must be remove to replace the turbo. Can the transfer box remain in place?

I intend to fit new oil feed lines. Pull the sump to Chech the oil strainer for obstruction.

Change the oil after 50miles of driving with new turbo and again after 500.

The engine has 143000 miles on the clock.

Should the egr be looked at during this work?

Any other suggestions

Note I am not looking for remap or power increase just want a solid car to keep for years to come as this car suits my needs very well but it has not been a cheap car to keep over the last 2years and 32000 miles. The following is a list of works done

Timing belt and water pump

Camshaft

Clutch and fly wheel

Full fluid changes in the drive train

Electric problems where some gob****e used computer to hide problems rather than fix them (door lock and windows and repeater flashers on wing mirrors)

Air con rebuild condenser and compressor

Brake disc to the front and calipers to the front

New coils and shocks all around.

New loom to injectors

Thus as anyone can see I have replaced a lot of the wear/failure points in this car

Regards
