Spark plugs durability

Featured Replies

Just had the fourth year service on the car and I was again following my old mantra "replace everything". The mechanic was like "Brake pads are good for another 3000 km" and I was "Replace!". Windshield wipers are starting to leave lines, replace! Skoda says spark plugs should be replaced every 60k km or 4 years, replace! Etc.

And I'm starting to think that perhaps I'm acting a bit wasteful, it sounded like the mechanic was actually trying to save me a few bucks and I didn't care. My Citigo only has about 33k km on the meter, if spark plugs are good for 60k, perhaps I should have left them for another year? I'm curious what are your thoughts on this?

My personal opinion would be the same as yours, better to replace when 80% worn that when they are broken! It may cost more than waiting, but it will mean there is a lot less potential for problems.
