hi, with the ongoing lockdown thought it would be good chance to update the maps on the columbus sat nav, went on the update portal for skoda entered my VIN and it says that" no update available " how is this possible as the maps will never been updated from new ,  any pointers ? im guessing that its not done automatically or is this a model and age (superb 16 reg) that cannot be updated

Same for me - I think it's portal problems again (not uncommon).  Thankfully I think I'm up to date, but thought I'd check anyway.

when a car is first registered (by the dealer), the VIN it needs to be added to the skoda update portal database.

 

if this process is not done, then u'll never get updates through the update portal, using ur VIN.

 

alternatives is to use the maps from the VW Portal - its exactly the same.

there has been plenty of discussions/threads about this topic.  do a forum topic search.
