Delivery during corona

Featured Replies

I had my new company car ordered mid march.

A superb SE-L iV hybrid.

It was shown as in stock, delivery in three weeks, then we all went into lock down, does anyone know from a dealer point of view, are they still delivering? Will this of been registered and just parked up somewhere?

Almost certainly at a compound someplace.

Someone here will maybe able to tell you what shows as it's last movement if you have the details required.

Vauxhall are running Offers to order online and have the vehicle delivered to you, but no idea if they can deliver before lockdown is relaxed.

I can not see how they can, unless maybe to Health Workers or an Front Line worker.

It would depend on the dealership primarily and if they are 'bending rules' to have PDI's etc done under the guise of 'essential work and servicing'.  I'm on the mailing list of a few Skoda/VW dealers and it would seem some have closed all together, whilst others are still open for servicing and essential maintenance.  My local dealer actually emailed me last week to ask if I'd like to book my car in for service (which is due)

I was meant to collect a car on the a'noon of the first day of lockdown and was called by the supplying dealer to say that because my car hadn't been through prep and final check, the collection was cancelled until post lockdown.  If my car had been ready to collect then they would have delivered it and collected my current car at the same time.  From what I understand a lot of dealers took a similar approach and were only delivering cars that were ready to go.

The other consideration would be that the staff at Skoda in MK are likely running light at present and they may not be able to process finance/contract/admin etc, so could have requested dealers halt proceedings.

I had an email from my dealer (general mail shot) when lockdown was suggested as a possibility,  saying they would be honouring pick-ups for already-agreed handovers only, on an appointment basis for a limited period. When lockdown was announced, I got an email saying they were closed. So I would think you have pretty much no chance. On the positive side, it's something nice to look forward to when this current unpleasantness is over 👍.

Others have answered the delivery situation.

Just wondering why, especially given it's a company car, you ask about registration?

The V5 is normally dated a few days before collection, the car is typically taxed on the date of registration.

I can see a situation arise where a car may have been taxed / registered and then the owner possibly loosing out on a months tax / possibly having to MOT the car a few weeks earlier due to lockdown, but a months road tax is hardly going to break the bank.  But as yours is a company car I wouldn't have thought either situation would make a blind bit of difference.

The only other big difference would possibly have been if the car was due to be registered prior to 1st April, but given it's a hybrid you / your company would only have saved £10. Couldn't say if there would have been any BIK difference.

It's more that I assumed the registration would hold it up. It was shown in stock so I assume it's in the UK. But didn't know if cars were being registered and plated during the outbreak. Obviously not.
