Please help - Fabia alarm problem during lockdown!

Featured Replies

Hello

I hope someone can help me, as I've had a few sleepless nights (as have all our neighbours!)  with my car alarm going off. The only way I can stop this is to leave the door slightly open, which is not ideal!

As we are all in lockdown right now I can't get the car to a garage to get this sorted, but I was wondering if there is a fuse I can remove to disable the alarm. I'm not worried about leaving the car unprotected as it's not exactly a desirable joyride!

I've tried double clicking the key fob to disable the interior sensors but this doesn't help. Also, when the alarm goes off, the key fob sometimes doesn't work at all, and I've unlocked the car manually, put key in ignition, switched on engine, switched off engine, removed key, and alarm still goes off 😖

This issue started after the battery had died (2 weeks of no use) and I recharged it - would this have led to any issues? I've looked through various posts here and have tried spraying WD40 on the bonnet and boot catches, in case they are triggering the alarm.

Am at my wit's end and would now just like to pull out the fuse and wait until we're all allowed out again!

Thanks in advance

What year is the car?

Try the Interior monitoring deactivation switch on the B-pillar, driver's side, if there is one. Probably have to press it within a short time of switching engine off, not sure, see user manual.

If that fails and you know where the alarm horn is, unplug it and remove it from the car?

Thanks for the speedy reply, Wino!

The car is 2011. I'll try the interior monitoring deactivation switch and see if that works.

First thing I would check and at a guess I would say your siren battery is going dead. They roughly last about 5 years but can last 6,7,8 years. Any error code whilst the fault is happening or can get one?

A simple one can be not applying your handbrake properly and putting it in to first, I used to have this problem when I first started driving as I lived on a steep hill and I never applied the handbrake fully so it would move a few inches over night and eventually ended up touching the neighbours front bumper 🤭

does the ignition lock seem normal?

There is the car battery to go flat, but also the siren with alarm battery which Skoda shows as replacement item at 5 years in a 2011 service book.

They can last much longer, but 9 years can be long enough.

Hello again

Just updating - I tried switching off the interior monitor but alarm still honking away. I disconnected the battery for a few hours then managed to get an RAC man to look at car. Once he reconnected the battery it behaved itself perfectly, so he thinks this has reset the BCM, which might be faulty.

I think I'll have to wait until we're out from lockdown and get an auto electrician to have a look at the car, but in the meantime at least I know that disconnecting the battery will silence the alarm if necessary!

Thanks for your help Wino 😊

Hi Cozza and Rootoot

Thanks very much for the replies.

I think the alarm back up battery must be dead and gone, as disconnecting the main battery did stop the main alarm.  I don't see any error code. At least I can stop the alarm going off now, if it plays up again in the middle of the night!

Things would be so easy if I could just take the car to a garage/auto electrician .....

Stay well everyone!

I believe you can still take it to a garage, just ring up and book an appointment in advance 🙂 I would take it to a garage who deals with VAG cars, just speaking from experience...

Thanks Cozza, I'll try calling a few garages in this area🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi I had the same problem with mine same year as well skoda had it for 2 weeks and replaced the bcm under warranty before that I took the 2 fuses out so it would not keep going off.

Some people have opened up the alarm box and replaced the battery pack, and that has sorted some alarm assemblies, but some people have found the internal battery pack was not holding a charge, replaced it and that did not sort their problem.  I think that I'd buy in a suitable battery pack, in fact I think the battery pack that is used is not available and you need to buy 2 batteries and strap+wire them together and take a chance as I like trying to repair things!

Thanks for your suggestions Jweb and Rum4mo. The problem seems to have been solved for now by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it after a couple of hours. Must have reset it or something, but I will be getting the bcm checked  once we're allowed out!

As Cozza89 has said, my Fabia Monte Carlo has done the same. I whipped the siren off of it this morning which is located under the scuttle next to the right wiper.

I have been looking for a replacement battery but can't seem to find one.

There are plenty of sirens available but i guess i just take the chance that they are not coded and the battery is good.

At the minute the car locks and drives fine with out it. Plus no annoying 5 o'clock wake up.

Hi the whole unit is not that expensive from Tpms

But mine fault turned out to be a bcm

My fault was a bcm

No they are not coded

HI

My alarm seemed to reset itself and behave once I'd disconnected and reconnected the main battery. I've since replaced this battery with no probs so far, but that's a really useful photo Skodasimo, thank you. Now if it misbehaves again I'll know which part to rip out at 5am! 😀

Hi

Its easier to pull the fuses out to stop it going off there are two above the foot well.

Hi i tried removing fuse 54 on my Fabia monte carlo 2011 before removing the siren, however the first run i took it on the coil light started flashing and it cut out.

I popped the fuse back in and away it went.

While it seems that you can't buy the correct internal battery, from interweb chat about this, you just buy 2 1/2 batteries and tape them and wire them up same as the original one.
