how to lock the car without battery or how to deactivate the alarm after removing battery

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm in the bad situation that my ordered new battery will arrive in few days and my current battery is so drained that cannot sustain the alarm from not being triggered after a while.

I want either to remove the battery but to have the car locked afterwards or to leave the battery in the car but to deactivate the alarm to not start when it detects the lower voltage.

I've read another similar topic telling to remove some plastic/rubber cap on the sides of the doors but it simply didn't come out when I applied some decent force on it with my nails, I don't want to damage the part.

Any suggestion what to do?

Thank you.

I had to do this a few times recently, my problem was stopping the alarm siren from sounding from its back up battery when I disconnected the battery, it was embarrassing and attracted the attention of neighbours, that may not be an issue to you.

In any case my procedure was to open the car put the key in the ignition and open the bonnet, then with the drivers door open deadlock all the doors, I think it was that, the second time I had forgotten and had to play around to find the procedure again.

So with the bonnet open, the drivers door open, the ignition on and all the other doors closed and locked then you disconnect the battery, close the bonnet, remove the keys from the ignition and manually lock the drivers door.

I  have probably forgotten something but you need to achieve what is written in blue by whatever means.

good luck!

yes, it's embarrassing and my neighbors won't like it if it'll happen during the night.

just to be sure, my battery does not have enough power to crank the engine, by putting the key in ignition mode you mean to turn the key at its first step?

I've tried to have the bonnet open, the diver's door open but when I want to close via remote nothing happens, I need to close the driver's door first then I can close all doors via remote.

Many thanks JR, it worked, here the sequence:

step1) lock the car via remote key

step2) wait few minutes

step3) unlock the driver's door via key  (manual unlock) and check the other doors are still closed (note, in case you've just closed the car via remote key and didn't wait long enough before manual unlock, all doors will be unlocked together with the driver's door)

step4) insert the key and turn it to its first step (you should have some of the warning symbols displayed)

step5) open bonnet and remove the battery (negative-black cable first, positive-red cable after)

step6) close the bonnet, remove your key

step7) manually lock the driver's door

Enjoy :)

Thats gratifying to hear and yes thats probably the way I ended up doing it and will have forgotten again when I need to do it again.

It was a conundrum initially, I knew that there had to be some way of doing it just as there is another way of doing it wrong and locking your keys permanently in the car with the battery disconnected and bonnet locked 😯

In fact on one of my dry runs I had the door closed and the window open just in case!
