Data plug

Featured Replies

I am planning to get a data plug for my 2017 Octavia, however they are £40+ and Ebay has volkswagen data plugs for as little as £5.  Will these worknon my octavia?

They do work but are a bit poinless. I got one and they only give you information that you can already access on your trip computer. It has been sat in my glovebox ever since.

It really depends on the device you buy.

I paid around £17 for a Torque Pro ELM 327 device and it works a treat with the Torque Pro app.

This can read fault codes and also ECU parameters such as GPS Time,Device Time,Longitude,Latitude,Horsepower (At the wheels)(hp),Miles Per Gallon(Instant)(mpg),Speed (GPS)(mph),Speed (OBD)(mph),Torque(ft-lb),Turbo Boost & Vacuum Gauge(psi) and many others. It can also log these parameters recording your journey and many others.

I used it for a trip to Germany and created a journey log.

Yes, the VW one should be OK, it works on my car which is 2016. I picked mine up from ebay (Lookers outlet) for £5. Ok for that price, I don't think I would have been happy with paying £40 for what you can do with it.

I got a VW one from eBay and it works fine.
bit of a gimmick with what it provides but one handy feature is battery voltage. If your cars parked up due to lockdown you can monitor the battery from your phone.

What app do you use with these? Skoda Connnect seems like it needs to be activated.

I've got Torque Pro with an ELM bluetooth adapter. (And OBD Eleven. And a Delphi DS150e). Is the Skoda Connect plug just a simple bluetooth dongle and so would the Skoda app work with my ELM one? I have to admit I haven't tried it, I just assumed Skoda would tie their dongle to a particular app and vice-versa.

Yeah, got it now thanks and it requires a pin to connect to the adapter so it wouldn't work with a standard bluetooth dongle. Anyway, I have a cheap one coming off ebay, just to have a play.

thanks all
