Another Rear View Camera Question

Featured Replies

Good Evening all,

With all this spare time I have.

I have a 2019 Kodiaq Scout 2.0TDI manual.

I Have fitted a genuine  rear view camera kit from my local dealer.

l Know it works as l have carried out component actuation  via my odis engineering copy, i adjusted the coding 19 gateway to say its fitted.

but that's as fair as l have got, I'm unable to carry out coding and basic setting of the rear camera. as my copy of odis engineering keeps coming up with an error message.

is there somebody that could help

Something is wrong with your Odis copy?

Bought from ebay?

Chinese clone?

Possibly,  yes and yes .

But l have no idea where to get a good copy of the software from.

I had a great original copy of vaspc v19.01 when l used to work for audi . Everything was on CD update.

When they updated to odis I did the original course before they released it. And everything was online including updates l never tried to get l copy. I left audi in 2014 and have spent the last 6 years working with merc.

I used to own a Ross-tech vag-com lead l had that for 13years and l like the way it worked and laid out,  it worked a tread updating coding on Audi's when the head office wouldn't send us the svm code to get retro fitted kit to work.

I sold my Ross-tech vag-com lead when l found out it wouldn't work with the new car.

Since then I have purchased a clone vas6154 head off fleabay.

So that's where I'm at.

I have both of them and OBD11 is not as good as VCDS.

Besides there is lots of topics in internet how users have messed up the codings and even bricked some modules when using OBD11.

For simple codings it will be ok though.

VCDS is almost £300.

OBDeleven is £35.

Use your common sense, do your research and there should be no reason why you'd do damage to your car.

To be precise,

VCDS is £225

OBDeleven PRO pack is £86, which includes device itself an PRO Android / iOS software to be able to code.

OBD11 device itself with free software can only read the codes.

£60 GBP.

€39.99 for the dongle and basic package, plus an extra €24.99 for Pro...

So VCDS is 275% more expensive.

For one-off or occasional coding, OBDeleven is the more cost effective solution.

Yes, so far 65 euros for first gen device,

99 euros for second gen.

I just went quickly through some forums and I am not sure if OBD11 is able to code rearview cam at all.

OP has to find it out first.

It`s not just pressing some "installed" button, it was quite a fiidling when I activated it on my Superb 2 with VCDS.

Thanks for your input ..........after much thought, and contacting local skoda dealers and getting no reply on costing . So I've ordered a Ross-tech v2 cable from genden ...... it should arrive tomorrow

A worthy investment

My new lead turned up a tried to code it and it wouldn't except a code.

There is 3 faults in rear camera, 1 is control unit not coded, 1 is no basic setting carried out and the final is no end of line programming.

As a fully fledged paid-up Ross-Tech customer you should now be able to contact them directly to ask for assistance?

Hopefully they've seen this before...

Thanks for that info,

After posting a thread on the Ross-tech forum,l was told it can only be done at a dealer.

Spoke with my local dealer and there are going to sort it out in June

I thought VCDS could do everything that the dealers had access to and more?

Vcds is brilliant for reading fault codes, coding with the long code helper reading Mvb's adaptions service light reset etc.

But due to odis the factory having to contact the server for coding software updates. Key coding and the technician not seeing how the long code is created. With his geko access.

Having the 2 would be a bonus. I could apply for geko access, as an independent and have full dealer tool.but  I dont see the point for myself.

Means VAG is trying to shut external access.

Like previously said, was no problem to code Superb 2 rearview cam.

Its always been like that, but as they have been adding more and more control units. And that the control units are more complex.

imagine the size of the diagnostic machine if it had to store everything on it for ever model and variant in the range. It would be massive and slow. This way the machine is small and just has enough to work solo but if you want software etc its all downloadable from the factory server straight away.
