Monte Carlo tdi brakes

Featured Replies

Hi there guys when carrying out some work to suspension noticed that my pads need replacing and discs also, what do you guys recommend for discs and pads been looking at ATE discs and ebc greenstuff pads or brembo pads although have heard bad stuff about ebc but don't know whether they have improved over the years.

Car is totally standard and is my daily does get odd abuse here and there so just wanting slightly better braking than standard, cheers.

I ran Ferrodo DS2500 pads on OEM discs and high boiling point Dot4 for a year before doing a big disc conversion. I was happy in as much as I never cooked them with fast road driving. The larger discs did make it feel like the car pulled up harder but I guess that was primarily due to the reduced effort needed at the pedal.

@DriverTom How was the braking with cold discs and pads?

Some might want to be aware about DS2500 and road or track use, and if you were to run someone over & kill them or they have life changing injuries and the car was examined just what your insurers opinion is on the pad choice.

Thanks mate guess I'll stick with OEM discs or brembos, any other good pads you recommend as Ferrodo might be Abit pricey.

By the way guys not related to the topic but does the emissions fix include just a software update and no other changes as I found out that my car has had the fix carried out ( guessing first owner was aware) and have seen some of the issues this causes.

Ferrodo are as cheap as chips which is why i use them.  Just check the price from a local Motor Factor.

4 discs and set of pads for under £140 including VAT.

PS

The Fix on a 1.6TDI CR is the engine management and the flow device in the air intake that gets fitted.

Ain't all places closed now , if you can send me a link so I can order them that would be great I'm guessing mine would be less cause I have drums on rear.

Cold braking exceeded the OEM pads (IMHO). I've read the regs stipulate that any brake components such as pads, discs, lining that are not OE have to perform within 15% (better or worse) of the standard equipment. Unfortunately brakes which are considerably better fall foul of the regs.

@DriverTom

I know all the speal and have driven a few cars with better performance pads that were crap on winter mornings.

It just does not cut it with a loss adjuster from an insurance company.
