Aldi dashcam offer - any good?

Featured Replies

I'm a dashcam virgin but having observed the drop in general standard of motoring whilst we've all been enjoying our various flavours of "house arrest" I think it's time to make the leap.

This Nextbase offer from Aldi has just dropped into my mailbox; do you think it's worthwhile?

OK, mucho web trawling later, here are my findings and conclusions:

1) The 412GW will cover what I need (car incident recording) and includes a GPS which will location and speed stamp any incident recordings.

2) Tech Adviser and Which both gave it a good review.

3) The Aldi offer has 12 months warranty and includes an 8GB SD card.

4) Amazon are offering the same price and warranty but without the 8GB SD card.

5) FYI the Aldi offer is online only.

I've ordered three, one each forward facing for our two Octavias and one to be rear-facing for mine as idiots keep running into my trailer and trashing the lights 😞

I'm going to investigate what is needed for hard-wiring and obtain the necessaries.  I'll be back for more info when I'm ready to wire them up :)

If the price is good then they should be decent. If not Aldi are pretty good at giving you your money back.

You normally can't go wrong with Nextbase.

Not for me though, it's too big. I like discreet and so don't want to see or hear it.

The screen is unnecessary too, I can't think of a situation where needing to review the footage roadside would be so important that it couldn't wait until I got home.

I took a few photos when fitting a dash cam to my Kodiaq, it might be of help as the set-up is very similar to the Octavia, but the Octavia fuse box is much easier to access being on the end of the dash...

It helps you aim and change the settings it but that's about all. I agree a tiny camera easily set over bluetooth (or something like that) would be preferable.

I have a couple 412gw’s and a 312gw, all have behaved impeccably.

The Aldi deal looks fine - Sure my 412’s we’re closer to the £100 mark when I got them a while back now.

I run 64gb cards in mine just so I have a good few days worth of recordings.
