Any assistance or Help Required Front brace and PD 160 air intake

Featured Replies

Just been to local seat dealer and got the front brace and Seat Cupra pd 160 air intake bits (well paid for them get delivered on Sat) . Iv'e hear that i'm also gonna need a green cotton air filter to take advantage of the breathing bits from seat.

Are there any guides to fitting any of the above bits and what tools will I need, I aint no mechanic but we are only talking nuts and bols here and a spanenr possibly... oh and maybe some hose clips etcc...

Please help hope to sort it all Sunday:rolleyes:

The Intake is one screw at the front of the airbox & unclipping the trumpet from the front panel. Fitting is reverse of removal, as they say. It's a tight squeeze & might be better if you take the engine cover off (just pull it in a upward direction).

For the strut brace, unscrew the vacuum box (black box on the O/S strut top), move that away, undo the 2 bolts either side of the strut top, position the strut brace & place the bolts back in. One thing I found was that the brace mounts flex when tightened, so don't fully tighten one side then the other. Keep moving from one side to the other until they're all tight.

If you get the green panel filter, I would fit that before fitting the strut brace, as the brace limits the movement of the air box lid.

defo a good idea fitting the green filter before the strut brace , also just watch for coolant hose chaffage when the intake pipe is fitted , i twisted the top hose to stop it rubbing on the intake pipe , if you're not sure of anything when doing any of the jobs especially the strut brace (requires removal of bolts holding the front suspension on) i would not start the job , best leaving it to a mechanic , oh yes also iirc the torque wrench setting for bolts holding on the strut brace is 25NM

theres a how to guide now for fitting the strut brace , please do search

Wow thanks for the quick responce guys and the info was most usefull and "ricovrs" even managed to scare me enough not to try it myself.....however when you got the parts and a sunny day you just gotta have a play :)

Do I really need a tauque wrench and is it really that scary fitting the pd 160 intake..if its a knuckle skin remover it may be best offering someone some beer tokens

You wuss! :D

The Intake isn't scary. Very easy infact. You just need to be aware of the other components around it.

The strut brace is a "2 spanner" job (as Haynes manuals would describe it!).

No real need for a torque wrench. Just note how tight they are to untighten.

Thats it, thanks to Jon TDI openly mocking me im gonna do it and prove that im no wuss or a shi* mechanic, one of them two. So i'm guesiing I just do the bolts on the strut untill they are firm so to speak and you dont need MR T and the spanner from God to loosen.

Tommorrow could be the best or worst day ever and Jon TDI is too blame :)

Good luck! It's quite easy, honset! :)

P.S. If it doesn't turn out to be the best day ever..............I'm not in!

i wasn't trying to scare you off doing it , i was just pointing out that if your not sure ,don't attempt it  the reason i mentioned torque wrench was that you dont really want to over/under tighten the strut brace bolts , over tighten may strip threads in top mount , there was a thread recently were the bolts may or may not have been over tightened but iirc the captive nuts were spinning on the top mount making the removal of the strut brace a pain , obviously if the bolts were under tightened you may get creaking/knocking noises occuring , anyways i hope you have a dry day to do the job , there will be an improvement

Once I went round to a friend of mines with the correct tools (spent an hour myself but needed a socket extender) it went OK and took about an hour to get everything on..except my cotton air filter Doooohhhhhh. Still not ordered but whilst I have the weather is tehre any subsitutes perhaps a local shop may stock.

Car does apepar to feel smoother and steering is tight but that could be my mind playing tricks. Hope not though and i'm praying taht knuckle skin will grow back soon lol :)

Heres the proof and thanks for all your help guys :D
