New car needed... any advice?

Featured Replies

Right, as I'm quite heavily into car "sound quality" competition now, I've pretty much reached the peak of what I can do with my Fabia, primarily because its a company car, but also because I still need bootspace etc.

So, I'm looking for a dedicated SQ car. Wheel sale pending, I have up to

You might with a bit of seaching get a 2.5litre legacy estate for that. They where 153bhp, big and 4 wheel drive. if you can get one with a luxury pack (may be too expensive) then they have leather as well.

Just over but gives an idea:

Does it really need to be an estate?

I thought SQ+ etc was all about sound quality, not monster boot installs?

Sq isn't about big installs... but still need room for a sub, amps, EQ etc.

But thats kind of irrelevant... when did I say it had to be an estate

Just any car up to

How about old bmw 3 series 325i f/g reg. There has been many good installs in them.

VW Vento VR6??? Golf VR6??? Good Late model Mk2 16v or a Rallye, dunno about finding a Rallye for £3K though LOL!

I think you're looking for something you wont find. Sorry mate, welcome to reality.

Don't be to sure!

Tom you should consider a Ford Scorpio Coswoth Estate (1996 and up) with the legendary 2.9 V6 24v engine in it!

My brother picked up a J-Reg saloon for

Get a golf and weld metal plates into where the windows should be :D

Sorry, for some reason I was picturing estates when you mentioned the Volvo in the other thread!

My bad.

Other option Rover 800 Turbo (180bhp) or the NASP (140bhp).

Very cheap and quickish for the size, plus you can get lost in the boot!

Not sure how cheap insurance is for the turbo, but I dont pay much for my 800.

The Rover 800 Turbos are group 17 IIRC

Civic 1.8 VTi 'Aerodeck' estate - 170hp (same engine as fitted to the Integra GSR in the US), group 15 insurance, 0-60 in just under 8secs. 135mph

A quick search on AT:

Pics attached at bottom of page for this car...I can see a little ding in driver door and the interior looked a little worn.

Edit:

Found an X-reg hatchback too-although I suspect its been tarted up by a trader for sale, looks 'too shiny' in the pic and is a trade advert...

You might find the boot of the hatchback is more than enough for what you need. It's the same size as a Rover 400 boot as the cars are based on oneanother as you probably already knew.

You might find some at around the 3k mark if you went for a 1997-1999 model.

If it wasnt for buying the Fabia off of my dad when I come back to the UK, I was going to get one of these as a runaround.

I had a 3 door 1996 1.6VTi from 2002-2003 in the UK and no problems whatsoever with it. Boot on the 3 door (completely different bodyshell) is too small for you though, I'd think.

Whats going on???!!! thought you were after a fun car! sod the stereo.

I've been looking at cheap MX5's now for a third car and some summer blasts after a certain thread!
