Cant delete phone numbers from Columbus

mandp

Recommended Posts

Phone is a Samsung GT-S 3650.

It connects perfectly well via Bluetooth.

I have some `redundant` numbers that I want to permanently delete from the phone and the car.

From the phone is easy but there seems to be no way to delete numbers from the Columbus.

Can anyone help me with this?

Many thanks in advance.

The Columbus should sync with the phone so they should auto delete.

You could try removing the phone and re add it and make sure you answer "yes" if it prompts for permission to read your contacts.

Thank you, John.

Can I be a pain and ask you how I do that...how do I `remove the phone`?

Y-see I'm real thick about these kinda technical things and asked the salesman to install the phone into the car when I collected it last July.

Think if you go into the phone on the Columbus then click on the cog for settings you should see your phone listed, I think on the far right is a bin symbol tap this and it should delete it.

Then re add.

Well, tried that this morning but no luck I'm afraid.

Fact is I couldn't find anywhere in the Columbus `settings` where I could `delete` the phone.

Looks like I'll have to wait till the dealer opens and get them to have a look.

Thanks anyway, John, for your suggestion.

Mike.

Wondering if this would be of any use to you;

Although he conducts a total factory reset you can see at 0:38 it gives the option to reset Telephone User Data only.

Nope, that's the RNS510, not the MIB Columbus fitted in a 2019 car.

Hi @mandp

assuming yours is the same as mine this is the sequence

Menu -> System Settings -> Manage Mobil Settings the tap the bin on the right.

The re-add your phone and ensure you accept the permissions.

Attached photos may help 🙂

Good Morning, John,

As I kinda expected, your system is different to mine. Yours maybe an updated version...my car is Model Year 2019.

On mine, all three screens (above) are totally different. I don't have `System Settings` or `Manage Mobile` for instance.

There is no `bin` anywhere so how you're supposed to be able to delete your phone is a mystery.

Anyway, John, let me thank you once again for trying to help me with this. I do very much appreciate it.

Have a great day, Mate.

Regards

Mike.

a picture tells a thousand words 🙂

In your first picture you are on screen one, swipe the screen left and you will get the the page I showed on my first picture and all should then be good.

You can see on the pics below that you are on the first page and I was on the second page 🙂

Hi,

we were nearly there, you are correct yours is not quite the same as mine :-(

this is the info from the manual for your year (I think)

Delete a paired mobile device › Tap Bluetooth Paired devices. › To delete a mobile device, tap and confirm the deletion. › To delete all mobile devices, tap on Delete all and confirm the deletion.

so from your screen shot this is where you get to Bluetooth

Hope we have it right this time :-)

Good Afternoon, John,

Well...with your help I managed (after some head scratching) to delete the phone from the car.

Re-installing it was a somewhat more difficult task for me, but I managed it after a while.

So, is everything `tickity-boo` now?...fraid not!

You may remember that at the beginning of all this I was simply after getting rid of defunct phone numbers from the car. Numbers that I had already deleted from the phone.

Well after deleting the phone from the car this morning and then re-installing it...guess what...all the `non existent defunct numbers are still there!

I think there is something `unworldly` going on here!

I'm gonna leave things as they are.

Thank you so much, John, for your help and especially your patience.

Best Regards

Mike.

Just a thought, the phone should have the ability to save numbers either to the phone memory or to the SIM card (or both). Even though you've deleted numbers from the phone they may still be present on the SIM card, and as such the infotainment system is still pulling them from your phone.

Hello, `Rustynuts`,

Thank you for your input.

You may well be right but the ability to do anything about it is way more than I'm capable of.

It may be that the phone is just too old...rather like me!

Have a great day, Mate.

Regards

Mike.
