Central heating annual boiler servicing. Vital? or Cash cow?
Rustynuts replied to Jono's topic in The Roadside Hotel
Regulations cannot take common sense into account, because that changes things from anyone's perspective. The reason regulations are Draconian is because some idiot somewhere will have killed themselves with carbon monoxide poisoning by turning the fan on and pulling fumes back down an open chimney thereby increasing carbon dioxide in the room. This causes incomplete combustion and in turn produces carbon monoxide. And people do die as a result of just this sort of scenario unfortunately. Common sense is unfortunately lacking in so many people these days, so regulation is required to be black & white. -
Do you have an SD card in the unit with a maps database on it?
-
I'm just moving house so not really able to offer repairs currently. Sold off loads of stuff and now don't have a workshop for the foreseeable future I'm afraid.

The Bluetooth pairing and the radio cutting out with a thump are not related I think. Just coincidental that you have two faults. Disconnect the Bluetooth unit under the drivers seat and reset it, then re pair your phone might be a cure for that (but with a faulty Columbus there's always a possibility that Bluetooth problems can't be addressed until you get that fixed). The thumping sound invariably is the radio board in the unit needs replacing. There are a few different ones depending on what unit you actually have, but best case it'll be a £90 fix for me to do, worst case it'll mean the cost of parts makes it uneconomical (new radio board & main board cost in the region of £300 to buy, then labour to replace).

At the risk of repeat... If hot water is leaving the boiler but cool water is coming out of a tap, then it cannot be losing circa 40deg of temperature in the short distance it has to travel. The only logical solutions are that the boiler knows it's only feeding the kitchen tap at any given time and decides all on its own to give you cold water. Or the boiler is functioning as intended and cold water is entering the hot water system between the boiler and the kitchen tap.

Columbus sat. nav. - replacement SD card.
Rustynuts replied to ColinCattle's topic in Skoda Kodiaq MKI (2017-2023)
First thing to try is a maps update. Free to do (you'll need a 32Gb usb drive) and reinstall the maps. See here... -
Columbus sat. nav. - replacement SD card.

That could be correct, but the fact remains that Skoda dealers & Customer Services have stated that the system doesn't use an sd card. -

Dealer talking *******s I'm afraid. The Columbus doesn't use maps from an sd card, they're stored on the internal memory. The absence of an sd card is not relevant. -
Insurer requests to see my v5, thoughts?
Rustynuts replied to Martini06's topic in Insurance & Legal Issues
Simple answer. Don't do anything which will cause them to cancel the policy. Every time you take out insurance you get asked "Have you ever had any insurance policy cancelled or declined" and if the answer is "Yes" then you'll be in for a world of pain. So, my advice, take a hit now and cancel the policy yourself, then take out a new policy making sure you put in the correct details. -
I'd go OEM Bluetooth personally, but I don't know what particular module would suit your car.

Columbus can fit with a simple fascia change. Bolero, well some are the same shape as the Stream and some are Columbus shape, so both will fit or can be made to fit. Bolero will give you touchscreen and 6 cd player over what yuou currently have. Columbus will give you touchscreen, DVD player, built in hard drive for music storage, and sat nav. I've a cheap Columbus in the sales forum, Cumbria isn't too far away if you want it fitting.
-
No, sorry. That would be bargain of the year as the loom costs £30.
-
Yes & No. Yes it'll fit (provided you get a new fascia maybe to suit the different shape) and no it doesn't have Bluetooth. None of the Columbus do.

Central heating annual boiler servicing. Vital? or Cash cow?
Rustynuts replied to Jono's topic in The Roadside Hotel
Yeah, oil filters need changing / cleaning, nozzle change, rubber hoses every 3 years (some types only 1 or 2 years), condensate traps cleaned, and soot deposits etc cleaned from heat exchangers, -

I only work on oil, so no safety certificate. -
Central heating annual boiler servicing. Vital? or Cash cow?
Rustynuts replied to Jono's topic in The Roadside Hotel
Any customer who gets an annual boiler service from me takes priority if / when it breaks down in the depths of winter. Customers who choose to call me out only when it breaks down sit at the end of the queue and invariably the bill is more than if the boiler had been serviced regularly. -
An impending house move means I have some gear I'm selling off rather than move it. Prices are listed below each picture and as per each item. Postage will be extra as cheap as possible. Skoda Columbus £175 - Provisionally sold Two random untested Bluetooth modules. Postage cost only so lets say £5 each. Should work as I don't keep broken stuff, but sold as seen. Amundsen 2 Unit complete. Component Protection will need removing so NOT plug & play. £125 Amundsen 2 screen. Very (really faint) slight mark, can only be seen when close up so invisible when installed. £90. Yeti Columbus fascia trim £15. Any questions, ask away.
