2012 fabia 77tsi DSG going back to D from D4 or D1

Featured Replies

Got a Monte Carlo Fabia recently, all is good except when you give it some gas from a stop turning left or right, the DSG gives a false neutral showing just "D" and revving.

Factors that might be giving that effect:

-DSG too cold? (it's winter here in Australia)
-Traction control confusing DSG? (Front tyres are on their way out)
-Spirited driving also caused it once on a straight line from D5 to just revving then showing just "D".

@arnaldodev

Welcome to the forum.

Your car was possibly not part of a World Wide Recall back in 2012 if it is not old enough,

that was to change the Synthetic Oil for Mineral and a software update.

That was in 2012.

*There is an issue with late 2012 cars that had Mineral Oil from the factory and were not part of that recall, or the Service Campaign '34H5' that was on cars 2013-2015.*

So they might now be part of the latest Recall VW Group started in Australia.

So late 2019 it is part of a Recall in Australia.

Best check on the Australian Government Recall Site, or at a Dealership or with Skoda Australia.

The issue can be the Mechatronic Control Unit, it can be other issues.  KNOWN PROBLEM.  Known to Skoda Australia.

EDIT

From the link by @OzFabia  Your car might not be in the latest Recall.

But still a KNOWN ISSUE.

That's a lot of help, thanks.

Looking for recall stickers as well in my car right now to see which ones have been made.

Does the "D" flash?

Sounds like somethings confused however my go to would be the mech unit as that controls what you see on the maxidot display. Couldn't imagine its the weather as it gets colder here in the UK(Even colder here in Scotland)than it does in AUS during winter.

You can do a really basic gearbox reset if you search on YouTube  "DQ200 GEARBOX RESET" there's a method you can do whilst holding the pedals down, Not a guaranteed fix but worth a try.

It happened again yesterday as I was about to go into a roundabout, found a temporary workaround as I'm scheduled to get the DSG inspected by a local VW DSG specialist.

Temporary fix was to switch to manual mode. Went on to the side of the road, shut off the engine then started it again poof it was gone.

No errors popped up not even the wrench popped up, just decided to have no drive whilst still in D4, but judder as well or weird shifting.

I'll try to document the inspection to help out other members with the same problem, this is a pretty reliable car sans the DSG bug.

A local highly recommended transmission specialist fixed the Fabia (Auto Torque in Canberra). They used an OAM kit and it the difference is night and day.
Confidence is back in driving the car daily, also they replaced all the necessary stuff ( fluid, bits and pieces). They have done the fix on several local cars as well and locals are loving the shop.

Awesome news so they just done a basic service, changed both fluids in the box? Usually the case with the mechatronic unit is the selector forks either jam like in your scenario and it locks into gear or the oil accumulator housing develops a crack and cant hold pressure.

I would be interested to find out what else they done, Replacing the fluids is always going to benefit the car however it might only fix problems temporarily if the mechs on its way out...…..Keep us updated on how its running, Glad its fixed.

Enjoy.

OAM kit came with mechatronic fluid, accumulator repair kit, accumulator cover and accumulator cover gasket. The other parts were surprisingly in very good condition still.

Excellent news mate that your mechanic has replaced the lot, Sorry when you said OAM kit I thought you meant a servicing kit. You can get the kit fairly cheap here in the UK now, Its horrible to think that only a few years ago a faulty mechatronic fix would set you back a minimum of £1000 (uk) from the dealers. Now the OAM(dq200) kit can be bought for buttons.

Owning my VRS a few years I most likely cant count on two hands the amount of people who have got rid of their fabia's because of this issue or paid a fortune to get it fixed.

Out of curiosity can I ask how much you were charged?

It was around $800 AUD for the kit plus labour, yeah so happy I didn't have a Skoda back then ( Was a Supra addict before).

All good, really excited to post here and I missed some things.

If @OzFabia is around maybe he can comment.

I seem to remember that Skoda Australia did not just replace a MCU but fitted a new DSG.

Maybe i am mis-remembering though.

That's about £430 uk, Certainly cheaper than the dealership! Without labour here your talking £200 for parts and oil, Its a fairly easy task to change the mech and housing and can all be done whilst on the car albeit a bit trickier, Do you know if you garage dropped the box out or not?

Always said I'll get a supra and convert it to a single turbo.....Same as a r34 GTR, Audi RS6 &  Lancia delta integrale haha! Well at least I can dream.

They replaced my clutch packs and mechatronics, although the car was still (just days) inside warranty.
