DSG Knock

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had a fault where, when they turn there car off you get a knocking noise. Kind of like a DMF but also like a mount gone. My car started this noise way back like a year ago. Since its had Vibratechnics engine mount. Polybushed (the slide in bush) lower mount the one off the Gbox to subframe. And its still got the stock gearbox mount.

really hoping its not the Dual Mass as mines DSG and i can see it getting expensive with clutches etc. Shes on 77K miles CR Derv.

I have something similar on my Octavia 2 with DSG. When I turn off the engine till it stops completely I hear some knocking noise. But I'm very sure that it is the dual mass flywheel which is starting to be bad. You can mostly tell if it's still good when there is no noise or knocking in Neutral position. If it's bad you will hear it while idling for sure. DSG should be totally ok. Why you are talking about expensive clutch replace? You can replace just flywheel if clutches are fine   And the flywheel itself is not that expensive but it is very time-consuming to replace 😕

Hiya. Yeah i am planning on getting the car looked at. The cars on 77k miles and if im having the flywheel done while im there its just common sense to do the clutches i guess. They are just the expensive part.
I kinda want to just leave it also tho as like you say if it was real bad it would make the noises all the time which it doesn’t.

But also while your here. Go to your car put it in drive and hold the brake. Then blip the throttle pedal, does your knock then ?

No, it just trying to rev up the engine by the clutches :D without any strange noise from dual mass fl. Btw. I have 200 000km already on the original dual mass. Dual mass flywheel should last at least 200k in most cases, I don't know for how long do you have your car or how you are driving but usually is bad to drive on very low revs. Or doing things like accelerating while holding the brake pedal 😛

Not so sure that is correct but even if it is there is a big difference between 'should' and 'do'.

iirc I think if you look on this forum more you will see many have required replacement way before that. As said IIRC.

Mine needed replacement at around 100k miles, but I did only have the DMF replaced without the clutches. That was in Feb 2011 when I purchased it and it has been fine since (touch wood).

(added) mine was noisy on the garage forecourt and the mechanic from next to the seller said it was DMF straight away.

From the exterior of the vehicle whilst idling the rattle was most noticeable from behind the NSF wheel.

If you hear this (near the end) ticking sound, it's most likely DMF. If you hear a circular motion metal grinding sound, it is 100% the DMF when you turn off the car. It means the springs are busted.
