so theres a couple of spots on the octy where the paint looks a bit crap, rear bumper in particular.

i have primer (yep, its flaked off the bumper...) colour matched spray paint and lacquer, polish and clothes etc. 

just wondering, what gradesof wet n dry sanding paper do i need to pick up for rubbing back to start this, and between coats?

If I am not using filler other than perhaps stopper in any scratches or rust pitting then I use 320, 600, 1200, maybe 1500 for the lacquer.

 

All of the grades once worn can be used for the next grade down if that makes any sense.

 

You might want some plastic primer if the paint has flaked, sounds like there was already a poor bond to the plastic.
