Front head restraints, removable?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has found a way to remove the front head restraints? I need to fit seat covers to keep the leather clean & un-scuffed. I know they're height adjustable, but unlike my previous Yetis, can't find a way to remove them completely. Can anyone help please?

Cheers from lockdown (still here in Scotland), life's getting a wee bit tedious now, but it means I'm saving squillions on fuel bills.

This has been covered before and someone posted a pic of how to do it. I think it might have come from the manual but I can't find it.

However, have a look at this You tube link, which is for a Seat Ateca, but the Kodiaq method is the same or similar. Can't understand why Skoda use this method, because as the guy states, it's a bit of a faff.

Thanks, tried that + another youtube post, but neither are working. I just want to remove them so I can cut small holes in the seat covers & fit them over the head restraint supports. Looks like I'll have to butcher the top to make them fit over the whole head restraint.

No, don't butcher them. Persevere, it can be done and if I can do it, you can too. 😉

I've just been out and tried it in my car and got it to work on both seats, although the passenger seat was slightly easier than the drivers.

The area where you need to press is directly in line from the centre of the two headrest posts. Measure about 65mm down from stitching that's behind those posts and you should find it.

There seems to be a small indent in there, that when pressed, releases some sort of catch. It isn't that apparent when you've pressed the correct spot, so after each press you do, try lifting out the headrest. You'll get there.

Having said all that, I'm assuming that the Edition seats are the same as in my SE L.

Additional info

Skoda make it difficult because the head restraints are an intrinsic part of the cars overall protection system.

As mentioned their removal is possible, but it is deliberately difficult.

Thanks, will try that tomorrow, let you know if it works. The YouTube post I saw was for SEAT Ateca seats, but look identical to the Skodiaq & they reckon it was about 80mm down from top of the seat. Cheers.
