2.0 tdi 2015 184hp cuna engine knocking sound with dipstick pulled

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Lately I heard a very small chirping coming from underneath the engine almost undiscernable, almost like a plastic vibration, then pulled up the dipstick.

Here is link with the sound it makes.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? If I pull out the oil cap it's nice and quiet, no blowby no nothing so the sound must be generated somewhere near the lower ending of the dipstick tubing.

I'm not even sure if this is a metallic sound or not although it is scary.

Could it be something wrong with the oil pump? Car was always serviced properly, oil change at max 10k km and now the car has almost 100k km.

Thanks!

Sounds like the oil stick itself vibrating. Does it still do that sound if you pull the dipstick out completely?

The wife just came home with it and it seems when hot that noise is barely audible (no difference dipstick completely out or not). Will recheck later when cold again with dipstick out.

Thanks!

It is not the dipstick, just tried it in the morning fullly pulled out, same noise. Any other ideas? Anyone else with same engine that can test this please?

Sounds like the noise of the engine reverberating up the tube. Might be normal but who knows, its not really a common thing to try and do, taking the dipstick out with the egnine running.

It is very common for a quick engine health check: blowby, noises, smell, foam etx.

I'm wondering, is this engine in the same family with those that are suffering from a bad designed oil pump shaft that starts to slip in its socket? Could this be that noise?

No its not a known issue on this engine

Possibly too much crankcase pressure. Check the pcv valve system isn’t blocked.

You are 3 years too late!

The noise was (IMO) the crankshaft driven vacuum pump.
