Petrol leaking from fuel filter

Featured Replies

I noticed today that petrol is not dripping but running from the fuel filter on my daughter's 2009 1.4l 86BHP Fabia when I drove the car into the garage. It might have been leaking for a little while, how long I do not know but judging where the car usually parks a while, but not before corona.

The fuel starts to drip out when I switch on the ignition and it starts to run out when I start the engine.

There is not much to see on the filter and I am not sure where the leak is coming from. I have not had the car on the ramp.

What is the most likely cause? Just a loose connection? No one has been at that part of the car for a long while.

Does the fuel filter itself spring a leak?

Does anyone have a part number?

I'd be very inclined to buy a new genuine VW Group filter/regulator assembly and a single coupling repair kit - it could be that if you remove that leaking coupling and refit it, it seals okay, or it could be that that filter has sprung a leak.

Get a local open VW Group dealership to order in the parts for you, these coupling repair kits exist, I bought a couple years ago for a 2002 9N Polo 1.4 16V just in case I needed it when replacing a filter + regulator (two parts on that car!) - but I never ever replaced it so I can't comment on just how easy it is to end up with the coupling leaking through use/abuse.

I would remove and refit all connections, then test to see if its still leaking, if it is, then it's likely to be an "o" ring in one of the connections

Could be a pin hole in the filter, I would take it off and have a better look.

Yes, corroded through.

I think that's needing replaced buddy,

Really easy to replace, Mine usually costs between £7-10 and I always use Mann filters.
