Postponing DSG oil change

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia 2016 with 6DSG "automatic" gear box. The car has traveled 110.000 km, and will now embark on the annual inspection service. I see in previous service reports that some previous owner have done a oil change of the DSG on 50.000 km, and not 60.000 km which, as I understand it should be normal. Therefore the next DSG oil change should fall at 110.000 km and not 120.000 km.

Now in these corona times, where the wallet thrives best at home in peace - yes I know the price for a new gearbox is 10x the price for oil change of gearbox. However, how sensitive are these DSG boxes to run an extra 10.000 km if I postpone the oil change for 1 year and the change comes at around 120.000 km instead at the next yearly inspection? This would help, in the short term, on the wallet. I should mention that the gearbox feels very nice and I have not noticed any decline in performance after the purchase 2 years ago. I should also mention that it probably wont be another 10.000 km until the next inspection, because the car will stand still for half of the year (shift based job), so it probably will go 5-6000 km until next inspection.

Mine ran 24,000 miles extra without any issues. Albeit I didn't own the car when the first service was due.

Mine was done 8k over the recommended 40000 miles at purchase as it was put on Variable service at 30k miles and hadn't been back in. Not had any issues. Most of the cost is oil as it's 9 litres of it and the bill showed ~£90 for just that.

The issue is not those that go over the 40,000 miles recommendation or 38,000 miles if an Audi have have no issues,

but those that then do have issues, and there are people like that who report it on Social Media / Forums.

So if bothered about a Warranty being void or the cost of having issues / failures it is an idea to stick pretty near to the Manufacturers Recommendations.

If you can not get the car in to be done then best do it when you can.
