Help on correct brake pads

Featured Replies

Struggling to find correct brake pads for fabia estate 1.6tdi 77kw 2012. Apparently this one had spring on each pad, most only do two pads not all four had me puzzled searching for correct one. In picture you could see two new ones claims to matched my car 🤦🏾‍♂️ Couldn't find exact same as old pad with spring. Anyone have an idea where I could find it?

You should add a bit more detail about what is currently fitted to your car front brake wise, ie does it have FS111 on the outer faces of the callipers and no anti rattle spring, or does it have nothing on the outer face and a vertical anti rattle spring, disc diameter would also narrow it down.

Edit:- I've just looked at that picture closely, is the worn pad in the middle  one from that car?

I think I am right in saying the spring part only goes on the caliber side with the piston, so the spring sits in the piston recess. Therefor, the other pad may just have a sort of flat shim between the pad and the caliper.

As I do not know your car and where you have searched, it will only come down to speculation.

As Rum4mo mentioned, caliber types, along with disc sizes will make a difference. The pad on the left of screen and the centre one are of differing shapes, though. I had some turn up like that, thought the shape was amended, had great difficulty fitting them and found out they were for a smaller diameter disc, so had to replace them only after fitting the first lot eventually and finding the brakes sticking. Still got them, with their box and very slight marks where they were fitted but cannot really sell or return them classed as new, despite the fact that they barely drove around the block! Thirty quid up the swanee!

Very confusing ,pad on the left is for the early Mk2 (TEVES) and did have 4 clips   centre one is correct and also a Teves they also fitted Lucas pads as well, normally in a set you get 2 pads with the clips and 2 plain pads and these 2 pads are held tight on the calliper outer by a spring clip, I can only guess that at some point some one might have put 2 pads into the outer part that should have fitted to piston side, just to reference check out brakebook textar service application, website this might clear up the confusion

One other thing is, for a calliper to allow/need to be fitted with 2 pads with spring clips on them, there needs to be a cut out on the non piston side of the calliper - no cut out area for the spring clip to fit into then not possible to fit a pad with spring clip on it to that side, obviously the piston side will take a pad with a clip on it.

My plan is to always have had a look to see what the pads ect look like before getting round to replacing them, normally I'd do that during my yearly or 2 yearly brake service, then immediately with that knowledge still in my head, check up brake manufacturer's websites and record the correct kit part number, that plan has never had me getting the car up in the air, wheels off, brakes opened up - and faced with the wrong bits.

Take a look on you tube and search Skoda Fabia brake pad replacement how to------ its a red mk2 Fabia and shows the correct fitment of the pads Teves and the spring clip into the calliper, some times they are tricky to fit and perhaps as I said some one fitted 4 of the spring type to save messing about or could be a different company made the pad s with the 4 clips but I've not seen these type before

The other pads that are on the left need to ve fitted with the spring clips as there's no holes in calliper for springs , to be fair I'm the same with my own  car I always gather up spare new parts and know that I've got them when I need them instead of running around trying to find them my MK3 has got 3 different sets of pads too and the only way for me to see what pads were needed was to take the wheel off and check
