Mk1 vRS Estate - New Shocks

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I think our vRS Mk1 Estate needs new shocks all round. I'm keen to replace them with the correct items, but not lower it or stiffen it up etc (just hopefuly improve the handling from the 130k mile items on it currently!)

Euro Car Parts list Sachs and Bilstein items but only "standard" and "off road" type which I don't think sound right for the vRS.

Would something like this fit? (says hatch) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bilstein-B4-Gas-Front-Rear-Shock-Absorbers-set-Skoda-Octavia-Mk1-VRS-1-8T-Hatch/333247279715?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Assuming this is fairly common job but wanted to know what my options were.

Thanks, Max

Those Bilstein B4 front shock absorbers won't fit, or at least that's what that ebay listing says.

These front Bilstein B6 front shock absorbers might fit as they are claimed to replace OEM part number 1J0413031CM amongst may other OEM part numbers:

The 1.8 litre petrol turbo 180HP RS model is different from lesser models in the Octavia MK1 range, as its front anti-roll bar is bolted directly to the front shock absorbers or so it would appear from the VW/Skoda online parts catalogue http://www.oemepc.com

Make sure any seller will give you a full refund if it does not fit.

According to autodoc.co.uk these Bilstein B6 rear shock absorbers fit the Octavia MK1 RS 1.8 T 180HP

The front Bilstein B6 shock absorbers may not fit, as I can't see from photos of any place to bolt the front anti-roll bar. Listings could be incorrect in claiming that these match OEM part number 1J0413031CM

Some people may have bought genuine Skoda parts for their Octavia MK1 RS because of this possible problem.

Hi,

I think I can see the eyelet on the rear of the shock in the ebay pic?

It seems strange that almost no one else offers 2TTDCVRSHATCH for sale. 2TTDCVRSHATCH doesn't look like a Bilstein part number.

fpitias are listing them for £81.68. However, I've never heard of them.

Maybe check directly with Bilstein or their UK distributor. In any case, would they fit the estate if they are ok for the hatchback.

All sounds a bit fishy to me.

I don't think its a Bilstein part number, but a kit they have put together. It does seem cheap though.

I think fpitias looks like a scam site that re-lists things at massively reduced prices to catch people out.

+1 on the fpitias scam alert. Definitely one to avoid.

The problem with the tdcautomotive listing, is that they are not saying what Bilstein part numbers their kit consists of. They may have put a sticker deliberately covering the original Bilstein part number on the Bilstein B4 shock absorbers.

According to autodoc.co.uk Bilstein B4 are available in three different models of rear shock absorbers for the standard versions of the Skoda Octavia MK1 hatchback (up to 150HP 2WD versions). These versions are sports, standard, and off-road. For the standard versions of the Skoda Octavia MK1 estate (up to 150HP 2WD versions) there is another Bilstein B4 rear shock absorber model that is different from the three hatchback versions. This estate version is listed as being suitable for standard and off-road rear springs.

I suspect that you would be able to physically bolt on all four different models of Bilstein B4 rear shock absorbers. However, the hatchback sport model of Bilstein B4 rear shock absorbers might be best for the sport springs on the 180HP 1.8 turbo (hatchback or estate). I suspect this is what tdcautomotive have in their kit. However, they may have chosen one of the other models which might not have the most suitable damping and stroke travel.

As you can get front B4 shock absorbers for about £110 from the Audi TT and rear B4 shock absorbers from the Octavia MK1 hatchback (sport version) for about £65, I would be inclined to purchase separately.

Here's a tdcautomotive listing on ebay for the Octavia MK1 hatchback (up to 150HP 2WD models) Bilstein rear shock absorbers (sport version)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-Bilstein-B4-Rear-Kit-Shock-Absorbers-Dampers-High-OEM-Quality-19-029177/332458876452?epid=248852613&hash=item4d6817de24:g:CJQAAOSwTjdeZ93b

According to autodoc.co.uk the same versions of the Bilstein B8 fit both the standard versions of the Octavia MK1 hatchback and the 180HP version. Hence why the standard B4 version should also physically fit the 180HP version.
